Dieser Schritt löste eine anhaltende Debatte aus und führte zu unterschiedlichen Standpunkten innerhalb der politischen Landschaft. Die Facharbeit setzt sich zum Ziel, die Auswirkungen der Privatisierung von öffentlichen Unternehmen in Deutschland anhand ausgewählter Kriterien zu analysieren. Insbesondere wird der Fokus auf die Preisentwicklung, die Produktqualität sowie die Erfüllung des öffentlichen Auftrags gelegt. Durch eine eingehende Untersuchung sollen die Ursachen und politischen Hintergründe der Privatisierung beleuchtet werden. Die vorliegende Arbeit beginnt mit der Erklärung des Begriffs der "Privatisierung", gefolgt von einer Betrachtung der geschichtlichen Hintergründe dieses Prozesses in Deutschland. Dabei werden sowohl große Privatisierungsprojekte in der Nachkriegszeit als auch der rechtliche Kontext und die Gründe für die Privatisierung beleuchtet. Ein besonderes Augenmerk liegt auf der Gegenüberstellung von privaten und öffentlichen Unternehmen anhand von Beispielen wie der Deutschen Bahn und der Post. Dies ermöglicht einen Einblick in konkrete Auswirkungen der Privatisierung. Im weiteren Verlauf der Arbeit werden die ökonomischen Auswirkungen der Privatisierung analysiert, insbesondere die Regulierung durch den Markt im Vergleich zur öffentlichen Hand. Die Auswirkungen auf die Preisentwicklung, Produktqualität und die Erfüllung des öffentlichen Auftrags stehen hierbei im Fokus. Abschließend werden die Positionen der politischen Parteien zur Privatisierung betrachtet, um einen umfassenden Überblick über die verschiedenen Standpunkte zu bieten.

Discard studies is an emerging field that looks at waste and wasting broadly construed. Rather than focusing on waste and trash as the primary objects of study, discard studies looks at wider systems of waste and wasting to explore how some materials, practices, regions, and people are valued or devalued, becoming dominant or disposable. In this book, Max Liboiron and Josh Lepawsky argue that social, political, and economic systems maintain power by discarding certain people, places, and things. They show how the theories and methods of discard studies can be applied in a variety of cases, many of which do not involve waste, trash, or pollution. Liboiron and Lepawsky consider the partiality of knowledge and offer a theory of scale, exploring the myth that most waste is municipal solid waste produced by consumers; discuss peripheries, centers, and power, using content moderation as an example of how dominant systems find ways to discard; and use theories of difference to show that universalism, stereotypes, and inclusion all have politics of discard and even purification—as exemplified in “inclusive” efforts to broaden the Black Lives Matter movement. Finally, they develop a theory of change by considering “wasting well,” outlining techniques, methods, and propositions for a justice-oriented discard studies that keeps power in view.

Over the last three years Europe and North America have been hit by an unprecedented wave of terrorist attacks perpetrated by individuals motivated by jihadist ideology. Who are the individuals who have carried out these attacks? Were they born and raised in the West? Or were they an “imported threat”, refugees and migrants? How did they radicalize? Were they well educated and integrated, or social outcasts? Did they act alone? What were their connections to the Islamic State? The answers to these and other questions have large implications for our understanding of the threat facing us and, consequently, help us design sounder policy solutions built on empirical evidence. This study, the first of its kind, seeks to analyze the demographic profile, radicalization trajectories and connections to the Islamic State of all the individuals who have carried out attacks inspired by jihadist ideology in North America and Europe in the three years since the proclamation of the caliphate in June 2014.
