Book Description
A study was conducted in Georgia between April 1968, and Septermber 1970, to determine the magnitude and scope of the lesser cornstalk borer, Elasmopalpus lignosellus (Zeller), problem on peanuts in Georgia, the relationship of moisture to the problem, and to develop a chemical control. A survey was conducted among country agents to elicit information on the importance of the insect as a pest of peanuts in 1967 and 1968. Field observations were made during earch of the three production seasons covered by this study to determine types of damage and environmental conditions related to damaging infestations. A laboratory study was conducted to determine the effect of air dried, wilting percent and field capacity soil moisture levels on the duration of the larval-pupal stages. Five chemical control test were conducted; two were artificially infested, and three were conducted against naturally occurring populations. The survey revealed that the lesser cornstalk borer was usually ranked as one of the three most important pests of peanuts by county agents. In 1967, damage to peanuts by the insect was estimated at almost 5 million dollars and in l968, the estimated loss was 8.5 million dollars. Field observations revealed that all parts of the peanut plant were fed upon by the borer, but pag and damage were apparently of greatest economic importance. Damaging infestations were always associated with periods of moisture deficity and were most often found on light, sandy soils. Rearing the insect on soil.....................

Book Description
In a 3-year study, several promising fungicides were compared for control of Sclerotinia rolfsii, commonly called southern blight or southern stem rot, on peanut. Alto, Mon 24000, Moncut, Tilt, Folicur, and fluazinam reduced disease loci and increased peanut yield when compared with the untreated chec.

Book Description
Compendium of Peanut Diseases, Second Edition is a guide to the identification, diagnosis, and control of peanut diseases and disorders. Bringing together color photographs and authoritative information in a single volume, this convenient compendium is a valuable resource for peanut growers and crop consultants around the world. This compendium has become a standard guidebook for the peanut industry. The contributors are an international group that includes 50 peanut experts from the United States, India, The Peoples Republic of China, Malawi, Australia, Israel, and South Africa. They offer advice on diseases and disorders found in each of the world's major peanut-growing regions.Detailed descriptions of 55 peanut diseases are the core of the book. Covering diseases caused by fungi, bacteria, nematodes, and viruses, these descriptions present detailed information on symptoms, causal organisms, disease cycle, control, host range, transmission, detection, and epidemiology. In addition to diseases, the compendium also describes peanut disorders caused by environmental stress, insects and arthropods, and parasitic flowering plants. Other sections of the compendium cover beneficial organisms, organisms with an undetermined relationship to peanuts, disease management strategies, genetic modification, and a listing of disease and insect resistant cultivars currently available for use by growers and breeders.

Book Description
The content selected in Herbicides, Theory and Applications is intended to provide researchers, producers and consumers of herbicides an overview of the latest scientific achievements. Although we are dealing with many diverse and different topics, we have tried to compile this "raw material" into three major sections in search of clarity and order - Weed Control and Crop Management, Analytical Techniques of Herbicide Detection and Herbicide Toxicity and Further Applications. The editors hope that this book will continue to meet the expectations and needs of all interested in the methodology of use of herbicides, weed control as well as problems related to its use, abuse and misuse.
