Book Description
This atlas is devoted to the study of amplitude and phase from the diurnal analysis of foF2 monthly median. It is concerned with their variations - both systematic and random - as functions of latitude, season and solar activity. * The atlas contains a series of graphs of the distribution of amplitude and phase and tables of phase distribution for four seasonal months of high and low years of solar activity.Emphasis is placed on the study of the phase distributions for determining the optimum separation of harmonics produced mainly by noise from those representing mostly real physical variation.(Author).

Advances in Ionospheric Mapping by Numerical Methods
Author: William B. Jones
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Ionosphere
Languages : en
Pages : 84
Book Description
Paper describes recent progress made at ITSA (formerly CRPL) to improve numerical methods for mapping and predicting ionospheric characteristics used in telecommunication. Two major problems are considered; (1) tendency of maps to smooth out physical properties of the ionosphere, particularly at low latitudes and (2) ambiguous values at geographic poles and resulting distortions in immediate surroundings. The second problem is overcome by means of a universal time analysis. Significant improvement is made in the first problem by the use of a modified magnetic dip coordinate. A general description is given of the new procedures for forming numerical maps, including a number of illustrations. Also included are a discussion of the use of numerical maps in the revised form and a Fortran Program for evaluating numerical maps of ionospheric characteristics and for calculating the MUF(SERO)F2 and MUF(4000)F2.
