Association Football And How To Play It This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Book Description
Excerpt from How to Play "Soccer" I believe that my readers will agree with me that never before has any one produced so complete a guide to the playing of the Association Football game as is to be found in this book, How to Play Soccer. A glance at the names of the contributors will convince you of this. The articles are contributed by star artists of the game and each man writes concerning his own special position on the field and how to play it. Surely, no better authorities could be found. The proverb runs that Good wine needs no bush. I have sufficient confidence in the wine which I am offering you to leave the verdict to you. Book Description
Excerpt from The Official National Collegiate Athletic Association Football Guide: The Official Rules Book and Record Book of College Football Underneath the canvas jackets any woolen under wear can be put on, most players wearing knit jerseys. As mentioned above, there are two or three players who can, to advantage, go without the regula tion canvas jacket and wear a jersey in its place. These are, first, the quarter-back, and sometimes the centre rush or snap-back, and finally, the full-back, if he be a kicking full-back only, that is, one who does not attempt to do any running. The team of eleven men is usually divided into seven rushers or forwards, who stand in a line facing their seven opponents a quarter-back, who stands just behind this line two half-backs, a few yards behind the quarter-back and finally, a full-back or goal-tend, who stands a dozen yards or so behind the half-backs. This gives the general formation but is, of course, dependent. Upon the plays to be executed. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from The Book of Rules of the Game of Foot Ball: As Adopted and Played by the English Football Associations Effecting a kick at goal Seems rather complicated, but once learnt it can never be forgotten. The side who have gained the touch-down retire, and depute two of their players to take the'ball out. The one who is to kick the ball brings it up to the line of goal in a straight line from where it was touched down. In When touched down between the posts it may be taken to either, but not between; inside the line he makes a mark with his heel, and touches the ball down upon it. He then, still keeping inside the line, retires a pace ortwo from his mark, for from this his opponents may stretch out and 1' maul him if they can, and kicks the ball gently off his toe into the hands of his companion, who is standing directly opposite him, only just outside the goal-line, to receive it. This man instantly makes a mark with his heel as near to goal as possible, and from this last mark the two players proceed straight out into the ground, and when they have reached a convenient spot for a place-kick, the kicker makes a small nick for the ball to rest in, and, on a level with this, the rest of the side form a line stretching away in front of the enemy's goal-line, behind Which their opponents are arranged like manner, intently watching the holder of the ball. (he, with one knee on the ground, holds it just ofi' the grass, waiting for the kicker's sign before grounding it; Directly he places it in the 'mark, the opponents may charge, and try and maul the kicker, or touch the ball on its way to goal, in which case no goal is scored, even though the ball go fairly over the cross-bar, and if any other player eathe attacking side tot the ball after it has been kicked into the placer's hands, their Opponents may instantly charge and maul. 'if a goal is obtained, the sides change over to try their luekfrom afresh position, whenthe sidewho 'lost the goal kick o ' from the middle of the ground'as at the'comi'iieticement of the match. If the try is ainthe. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Football for Public and Player In the pages that follow the author has endeavored by means of simple diagrams, and explanations shorn as far as possible of technicality, to give alike to the spectator and the younger player, especially the ambitious schoolboy who has not had the advantage of expert coaching either on the blackboard or afield, some idea of the plays that have been and are successful under the existing rules, and of the generalship that either wins games or loses them with honor. The plays and the use of them tell the story, and if the spec tator will apply inductive reasoning to the big games, finding his rule of play from the cases at hand, he will find the fascination of the game more than trebled. Book Description
Excerpt from Football for Player and Spectator Acting on the principle that example is, after all, the very best teacher, an endeavor has been made to thoroughly illustrate the various positions, plays and formations, the photographs from which the reproductions have been taken being posed with this especial end in view. As the title of the work implies, the book aims also to make the game plain to the spectator who mav not have enjoyed the advantage of close acquaintance afforded the man who has taken an active part in the play on the field. Above all, however, should a perusal of the work give the reader, be he player or spectator, an adequate idea of the spirit in which the game is both played and viewed in its best form, the author will feel adequately rewarded for his labor.
