Book Description
Excerpt from Annual Report of J. L. Meares, M.D., Health Officer of the City and County of San Francisco: For the Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 1887 Those interested in this subject I would refer to my report published in Municipal Reports of the fiscal year terminating June 30, 1877. The propositions laid down therein have never been contro verted, and have lost none of their force with longer experience. How to dispose of the garbage of the city is a question of great importance, and one which must demand your immediate atten tion. The Harbor Commissioners have refused to permit the dump ing of garbage into the Bay by means of scows. There are only two methods left from which you must choose - cremation, or its removal to the country for fertilizing purposes. Both are expensive. Cremation Is rapidly gaining favor for sanitary rea sons, both in this country and England. If not found too ex pensive, in my Opinion it Should be adopted. It is said to be in successful operation in several cities in this country, in Canada and in England. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
