Book Description
Excerpt from The Christian Annual: For the Year of Our Lord, 1916 Making The Christian Annual The making of The Christian Annual represents a vast amount of real hard work. One gets the book for twenty-five cents and thinks that it must be easily made to cost such a small sum. Besides a hundred or more circular letters and as many as seventy-five mailed out by the Woman's Boards for Home and Foreign Missions, more than two hundred typewritten letters were mailed out from the office of the editor in the interest of the present number. Every report had to be re-written, and that of itself required many days of hard toil. This writing was done by the Convention stenographer, to whose care and painstaking, much of the correctness of The Annual is to be credited. The preparation of the matter for the Woman's Department was under the supervision of Mrs. Lulu Craig Helfenstein and Mrs. Alice M. Burnett. The proof of this department also received its final reading by them. The proof-reading was done by Charlotte L. Nauerth, the proof-reader for The Christian Publishing Association, whose ability and care counted greatly in the present number. The final reading was by the editor, that additions and final corrections might be made, and the figures gotten for the historical statement. The typesetting required days of hard and patient labor, the value of which cannot be reckoned by a mere statement. The making-up of the book required fifteen days, which was done by the experienced and competent, Pressley E. Zartmann, to say nothing of the anxiety and watchfulness exercised in getting the facts and the forms as they should be. The work of the Manager is largely to come, for to him the orders are to be addressed and cared for in the office.
