D'abord on l'ecoute en silence; peu a peu l'attention se fatigue, on baille, on n'ecoute plus. M. de Buffon regarde sa montre et demande ses chevaux; le plus pres de la porte s'esquive; Thomas s'endort; M.Necker sourit en voyant pleurer les dames, et les dames, honteuses de leurs larmes, n'osent avouer qu'elles ont ete interessees.
