The transmission of reliable energy efficient data is an emerging issue in AOMDV routing as the nodes are prone to link failures and route breaks in highly dynamic ad-hoc networks. In order to eliminate such problems, a novel node disjoint multipath routing protocol called Link Reliable Energy Efficient AOMDV (LR-EE-AOMDV), the extension of a well-known AOMDV, is proposed here to find multiple link reliable energy efficient paths between any source and destination pair for data transmission using metrics such as Path Length, Path-Link Quality Estimator (P-LQE) and a novel Path-Node Energy Estimator (P-NEE).

Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) are a key part of the ongoing evolution of wireless communications. MANETs are a collection of wireless mobile nodes that dynamically form a temporary wireless network without an infrastructure. The design of an efficient and reliable routing scheme and Quality of Service (QoS) support for MANETs is a major challenge. Unlike traditional routing schemes that seek only single path, multipath routing allows the establishment of multiple paths for routing between a source-destination pair. Multipath routing exploits the resource redundancy and diversity in the underlying network to provide benefits such as fault tolerance, load balancing, capacity aggregation and the improvement in QoS metrics such as delay. In the first part of the thesis, a multipath routing scheme, referred to as Shortest Multipath Source (SMS) routing based on Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol is proposed. The mechanism has two novel aspects compared to other on-demand multipath routing schemes: it achieves shorter multiple partial-disjoint paths and allows more rapid recovery from route breaks. This scheme addresses the problem of wireless broadcast storms by simple hop count mechanism. The performance differentials are investigated using Network Simulator version 2 (NS-2). Results show the superiority of SMS under certain scenarios in terms of goodput of up to 85% and end-to-end delay of up to 99% when compared to the competing schemes. Although SMS is designed to find multiple shorter routes, these routes have no information about the network traffic or application requirements. The second aspect of the thesis addresses QoS support. Two novel capacity-constrained routing schemes based on SMS, which allow nodes to depend on their estimation of the residual capacity to make correct admission control decisions, are presented. The performance evaluation demonstrates the merits of the proposed schemes with a 20% increase in goodput while end-to-end delay is reduced by 47% and the necessity of QoS-aware multipath routing schemes in Mobile Ad hoc Networks becomes more apparent.

This algorithm predicts the link availability time and even before the link breaks; either it repairs the route locally or sends information to the source nodes to enable them to initiate a new route search well in time. This algorithm improves the quality of service of the network. Simulation results show that AODV routing algorithm with link availability model performs better than the existing AODV. Advances in wireless technology and hand-held computing devices have brought revolution in the area of mobile communication. The increasing mobility of humans across the globe generated demand for infrastructure-less and quickly deployable mobile networks. Such networks are referred to as Mobile Adhoc Networks (MANET). Usually, nodes in a MANET also act as a router while being is free to roam while communicating each others. Adhoc networks are suited for use in situations where infrastructure is unavailable or to deploy one is not cost-effective. Frequent changes in network topology due to mobility and limited battery power of the mobile devices are the key challenges in the adhoc networks. The depletion of power source may cause early unavailability of nodes and thus links in the network. The mobility of nodes will also causes frequent routes breaks and adversely affects the required performance for the applications. Availability of a route in future mainly depends on the availability of links between the nodes forming the route. Therefore, it is important to predict the future availability of a link that is currently available. We have proposed an analytical model for link prediction using Newton divided difference method. This link availability algorithm is incorporated in AODV routing algorithm (AODVLP) to evaluate the performance of AODV routing protocol using the metrics viz. delivery rate, average end-to-end delay, average RTS collisions per node and route failure. In the existing AODV protocol, packets are routed until a link in the existing path fails. This results in degradation of quality of service of network in terms of end-to-end delay and delivery ratio.
