Droplet Size Distribution and Liquid Volume Concentration in a Water Spray: Predictions and Measurements
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 9
Book Description
A water spray, from a twin-fluid atomizer, was studied at different air temperature and at atmospheric pressure. The Sauter Mean Diameter, D32, and the droplet volume distribution were measured at four different distances from the injector. An optical method was used to measure droplet sizes. Predictions of the Sauter Mean Diameter, liquid volume concentration and droplet size distribution were also evaluated. The influence of the air velocity, air temperature and of the water flow rate in the spray S.M.D. and in the liquid volume concentration at different distance from the injector have been measured. The predictions showed good agreement with experimental results.

Holographic Determination of the Droplet Size Distribution of a Simulated Defoliant Spray in a 400-Knot Airstream
Author: D. L. Davidson

Pages : 43
Book Description
The feasibility of determining the droplet size distribution of a simulated defoliant spray in a high-velocity airstream using in-line holographic photography was successfully demonstrated. Holographic droplet size data were obtained in the 400-knot airstream contained within a 37-inch-diameter duct at spray flow rates from 3 to 117 gpm and spray injection pressures from 16 to 64 psig. Average diameter of the spray droplets was approximately 21 microns. Droplet size distribution did not vary significantly with either spray flow rate or injection pressure. The holographic measurement system exhibited an apparent diametric resolution limit of approximately 10 microns. Operational reliability of the holograph was satisfactory. (Author).

A Method for Determining Droplet Size Distributions and Evaporational Losses Using Paper Impaction Cards and Dye Tracers
Author:

ISBN:

Languages : en
Pages : 77
Book Description
In liquid spraying operations, droplet size distributions are often measured using paper witness cards. Stain size measurements of collected aerosol stains are converted to the original droplet sizes using a predetermined spreadfactor regression. The regression is developed from control stains. However, drying conditions effecting the spreading process cannot always be matched in the laboratory. Thus, a method of deducing the spreadfactor directly from actual trial stains was developed and tested using thickened diethyl malonate and Whatman 1 Filter Paper. The method uses the spectra properties of the tracer dyes in the test fluid. The dyes are removed by solvent extraction from individual stains on the witness cards and quantitatively analyzed to determine the original droplet size. After the initial study, further work was conducted in measuring droplet free fall evaporation. It was found that the methodology can accurately measure evaporation under field trial conditions.

Science and Engineering of Droplets:
Author: Huimin Liu
Publisher: William Andrew
ISBN: 0815518943
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 541
Book Description
This is the first book to encompass the fundamental phenomenon, principles, and processes of discrete droplets of both normal liquids and melts. It provides the reader with the science and engineering of discrete droplets, and provides researchers, scientists and engineers with the latest developments in the field. The book begins with a systematic review of various processes and techniques, along with their applications and associations with materials systems. This is followed by a description of the phenomena and principles in droplet processes. Correlations, calculations, and numerical modeling of the droplet processes provide insight into the effects of process parameters on droplet properties for optimization of atomizer design. Droplets are found in the areas of metallurgy, materials, automotive, aerospace, medicine, food processing, agriculture, and power generation, and encountered in a huge range of engineering applications.
