Book Description
This document discusses, in broad and general terms, the subject of acoustical considerations in engine test cells. One of the primary purposes of an engine test cell is to control the noise emanating from the operating engine in order to reduce noise in the surrounding facility and community to acceptable levels. This is done by the design and installation of specialized acoustic elements and features, which need to be fully integrated into the overall test cell design. It should be further noted, that the requirements of acoustic control are critical to the proper operation of the engine, safety of plant equipment and personnel, and meeting local and legal noise requirements. One of the primary purposes of engine test cells is reduce the sound emissions from the operating engine to the outside facility or community. The successful reduction and control of this noise requires specialized knowledge, experience, and execution. This paper explores the definitions, requirements, basic science, and recommendations for a test cell operator to select and evaluate qualified solutions and contractors for test cell noise reduction.

Jet Engine Test Cell Noise Reduction
Author: C. A. Kodres
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781423535324
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 77
Book Description
Passive methods for decreasing jet engine test cell noise emissions are evaluated and compared. Such methods have the dual advantages of low cost and simplicity. In addition, the effect on the aerothermal performance of the test cell is minimal. Sound pressure levels were measured in and around test facilities equipped with various devices to further reduce noise. The data were supplemented with parametric studies of noise reduction techniques conducted using a 1/20th scale physical model of the Navy's standard T-10 jet engine test cell. Methods that attack the noise problem from outside and methods that attack the problem from inside the test cell are assessed, including trees and other vegetation, acoustic walls, core busters, and modifications to the exhaust stack. Mounting screens in the path of the jet and increasing the height of the exhaust stack are found to be the most effective.

NOISE CONTROL FOR AIRCRAFT ENGINE TEST CELLS AND GROUND RUN-UP SUPPRESSORS. VOLUME 1: MEASUREMENT AND ANALYSIS OF ACOUSTICAL PERFORMANCE.
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 109
Book Description
This volume is the first in a series of three volumes (AD-403 701 and AD-403 712) concerned with the physical aspects of noise control in aircraft engine test cells and ground run-up suppressors. This volume presents recommended procedures for the measurement of noise control effectiveness. Three classes of measurement procedures are described. The first class is concerned with the description of the acoustical effectiveness of a facility as a whole. Such descriptions may be used to compare facilities with one another or to determine if a facility has met a given criterion. The second class of measurements is used to determine the most economical way of improving the noise control design of an existing facility. The third class of measurements is used to describe the acoustical effectiveness of individual noise control components.
