Book Description
In the 21st century - the age of the budget airline - where quick and reliable air travel is available to a large segment of society, it seems hard to comprehend that it is less than 250 years since the first human took to the skies. Although the wing of the bird seemed like the most obvious natural mechanism to attempt replicate, it was actually contained hot air, as demonstrated by the Montgolfiers and their balloon, that gave birth to the era human aviation. Since the first manned balloon flight in 1783, developments have come thick and fast, the airship, the aeroplane, and finally the space shuttle. This reprint of a classic publication written by some of the pioneering aeronauts, details the interesting history and major events of the lighter-than-air period of aviation. Complete with illustrations and a brand new introduction, it gives a fascinating insight into aviation before the aeroplane.

Book Description
Looking up at the stars at the age of ten, John Casper dreamed of being a space explorer. The Sky Above tells how persistence and determination led to flying in space, after serving the nation as a combat fighter pilot and test pilot. Despite life-threatening experiences and failures, his spiritual faith was pivotal in overcoming life’s challenges. Through vivid storytelling, the reader rides alongside the author in the cockpit, feeling the fear of enemy antiaircraft fire and the pressure of high g-forces during combat maneuvering. His insider accounts of four Space Shuttle missions vividly describe exhilarating launches, the magical experience of weightlessness, and the magnificent beauty of Earth from hundreds of miles above. A central theme running throughout Casper’s life is his faith, as he struggles with the loss of fellow pilots and confronts life’s inconsistencies and disappointments. This is a story about his growth and trust in his Creator, whose tenacious spirit never left him, even during the devastating Challenger and Columbia disasters. Readers interested in stories of true adventure or overcoming adversity will discover unique drama and insight. Those trying to reach their dreams, whatever they are, will find inspiration; those unsure or challenged in their faith will find encouragement.

Book Description
This book is dedicated, first to the 12th (now Suffolk) Regiment and secondly to the youth of HM's dominions in the hope that they may train themselves to do, in time of need, decisive things. The author served in the Suffolks for 27 years and he is writing four months after the outbreak of the Great War. It is not a record of the doings of the Suffolk regiment but rather an account of Britain's campaigns, battles and leaders as well as (Suffolk) regimental actions and regimental life, all spread over more than a hundred years. It begins with an introductory account of the early days (1660 onwards) of the Army and Navy, goes on to Marlborough's wars, the Indian Mutiny and then turns its attention to Napoleon, Wellington and Nelson and their wars. It treats the New Zealand War, Ashanti and Abyssinia and other colonial wars up to the death of Queen Victoria.
