Terrestrial Solar Spectral Modeling
Author: Richard E. Bird
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : BRITE (Computer program)
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
The utility of accurate computer codes for calculating the solar spectral irradiance under various atmospheric conditions has been recognized for many years. An early worker in spectral modeling was Moon. The solar community has continued to use the same basic approach that Moon used with most of the improvements coming from using newer absorption and extraterrestrial spectral data. However, a great deal of progress has been made in radiative transfer modeling outside of the solar community, especially for space and military applications. The Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) has taken advantage of these developments and is currently using three rigorous radiative transfer codes called SOLTRAN, BRITE, and FLASH. This paper describes the SOLTRAN and BRITE codes, presents results from their use, and suggests areas where improvements could be made.

Photobiology
Author: Lars Olof Björn
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 1493914685
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 453
Book Description
The new edition of this authoritative text provides an interdisciplinary treatise of all aspects of the interactions between light and the living world. It starts with a description of the physics of light, and how to deal with it in experiments and observations. The phenomena described in the rest of the book covers all organisms: how light is used by organisms for obtaining energy for life processes, for gathering information about the environment, and for communicating with others of the same or other species. The book also describes "bad" effects of light in causing disease or contributing to formation of environmental toxins. New techniques used by scientists to investigate life processes using light are also explored in the volume. Written by experts in the field, Photobiology: The Science of Life and Light, 3e is a valuable and accessible resource for both advanced undergraduates and established researchers.

Atmospheric Radiation
Author: R. M. Goody
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0195356101
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 536
Book Description
A complete revision of Goody's classic 1964 work, this volume offers a systematic discussion of atmospheric radiation processes that today are at the center of worldwide study and concern. It deals with the ways in which incident solar radiation is transformed into scattered and thermal radiation, and the thermodynamic consequences for the Earth's gaseous envelope, identifying aspects of the interaction between radiation and atmospheric motions as the central theme for atmospheric radiation studies. As a complete treatment of physical and mathematical foundations, the text assumes no prior knowledge of atmospheric physics. The theoretical discussion is systematic, and can therefore be applied with minor extension to any planetary atmosphere.
