Book Description
Excerpt from Smokeville's Social: A Minstrel Show in Two Parts This is a minstrel show, preferably black-face, in two parts. Either part may be given separately if desired. The fun consists in stories and jokes, interspersed with songs and other specialties. Squizzle tells how Zip got lost. "Sat on a fence and the vines grew up and hid him." Jumbo explains how tired the soldiers are on April 1st, "after thirty-one days of March." Jumbo also knows the difference between a standing and a running account. Zip thinks he can tell a hen's age by the teeth. "She hasn't any." "No, but I have." Jumbo delivers his famous oration on "Our Country." Musical and dancing specialties, and a solid hour of wholesome rapid-fire entertainment. This minstrel show may be given without scenery, on any platform. Wherever a specialty is referred to it may be by some other actor than the one named by the Interlocutor, if preferred. Be careful to allow pause for laughs at the jokes, but also be ready to pass quickly on to the next point if the audience does not respond heartily.
