Book Description
An improved measurement of the Michel parameter? in normal muon decay has been made using the MEGA positron spectrometer. Muons were stopped in the center of a large solenoid (1.5 T nominal field) and the momenta of positrons with energies over about 35 MeV were measured with a precision of about 0.6 MeV/c FWHM. There over 15 million events in each spectrum taken for three operating configurations. The previous result has a precision of??/? = 0.003 based on a sample of about 1 million events in the positron energy spectrum. The present experiment expects to improve the precision by a factor of three to six, depending on the level of systematic uncertainties. The improved result is a precise test of the standard model of electroweak interactions for a purely leptonic process. It also provides a better constraint on the mixing angle in a left-right symmetric extension to the standard model.

Book Description
This volume presents the possibility of high intensity muon sources whose intensity would be at least 104 higher than that available now. Scientific opportunities anticipated with such sources are search for muon lepton flavor violation, measurements of the muon anomalous magnetic moment and the electric dipole moment, neutrino factories based on a muon storage ring, muon collider and muon applied science such as muon catalyzed fusion and biology. In addition to physics opportunities, the necessary technology for such sources is discussed.

Book Description
This book is the result of a broad-based and in-depth study of high energy physics commissioned by the Executive Committee of the Division of Particles and Fields of the American Physical Society. This year-long study was initiated in the early 1994, in the wake of the cancellation of the SSC, and is meant to complement the report of the Drell HEPAP subpanel, charged with providing a vision for the future of the field. The DPF study of high energy physics was organized on the basis of the working groups, each led by a number of co-conveners chosen among established leaders in the various subspecialties in the field. These conveners, in turn, organized their working groups by inviting other active workers in the discipline to participate and gathered further input from the community by holding a variety of specialized meetings and workshops. This book contains the final reports of the 11 working groups assembled for the study, along with an extended overview and executive summary by the editors.

Book Description
High precision measurements of weak neutral current and charged current processes and of the properties of the Z and W bosons have established the standard electroweak model as correct down to a distance scale of 10-16 cm, and are a sensitive probe of possible underlying physics. In this book, all aspects of the program are considered in detail, including the structure of the standard model, radiative corrections, high precision experiments, and their implications. The major classes of experiments are surveyed, covering the experiments themselves, the data analysis, results, and prospects. This volume is a detailed reference for theoretical and experimental researchers, as well as an introductory text for advanced students.
