Large Eddy Simulation of Turbulent Flows Using Finite Volume Methods with Structured, Unstructured, and Zonal Embedded Grids
Author: Todd Allen Simons
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 280
Book Description
Structured, unstructured, and zonal embedded grid finite volume formulations have been developed to solve the Favre filtered Navier-Stokes equations for performing large eddy simulation of turbulent flows. These compressible formulations were developed using a dual time stepping approach with low Mach number preconditioning. For the structured and zonal embedded grid formulations, time marching was done with either an explicit Runge-Kutta scheme or an implicit lower-upper symmetric-Gauss-Seidel scheme. For the unstructured formulation, time marching used either an explicit Runge-Kutta scheme or traditional Gauss-Seidel scheme. All codes were parallelized to reduce the overall time required for simulations. These schemes were second-order accurate in space and time. Validations were performed using laminar and turbulent incompressible benchmark flows.

Flow Simulation with High-Performance Computers II
Author: Ernst Heinrich Hirschel
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3322898490
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 584
Book Description
Work is reported, which was sponsored by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft from 1993 to 1995. Scientists from numerical mathematics, fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, and turbomachinery present their work on flow simulation with massively parallel systems, on the direct and large-eddy simulation of turbulence, and on mathematical foundations, general solution techniques and applications. Results are reported from benchmark computations of laminar flow around a cylinder, in which seventeen groups participated.

Computational Methods for Fluid Dynamics
Author: Joel H. Ferziger
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642976514
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 376
Book Description
A detailed description of the methods most often used in practice. The authors are experts in their fields and cover such advanced techniques as direct and large-eddy simulation of turbulence, multigrid methods, parallel computing, moving grids, structured, block-structured and unstructured boundary-fitted grids, and free surface flows. The book shows common roots and basic principles for many apparently different methods, while also containing a great deal of practical advice for code developers and users. All the computer codes can be accessed from the Springer server on the internet. Designed to be equally useful for beginners and experts.
