Using its own natural resources, it manufactures hosiery and wood products. The railroad encourages marketing, as do traveling salesmen. High Point is already known as the furniture hub of the South. The first furniture plant Opened in 1888. That plant was the High Point Furniture Company. The population of High Point is seven thousand. A highly organized City Council oversees one of the first municipally owned electrical services in the South, lighting the city at moderate cost. The bity also owns a soft water reservoir and combined with the many private wells, there is an ample water supply. In addition, the city has 5 sewage system and a well-manned police department.
