It was resolved, therefore, in the first planning of the volume, to primarily trace the origin and growth of the Book selling and Publishing Trades up to a comparatively modern period; and then to select, for fuller treat ment, the most typical English representatives of each one of the various branches into which a natural division of labour had subdivided the whole. His only novel, ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ was adapted for the silver screen, in the film, ‘Dorian Gray,’ starring Ben Barnes and Colin Firth. In addition, Wilde wrote 43 poems, and seven essays. His life was the subject of a film, starring Stephen Fry.
