Book Description
This is the second update of "A Cumulative Bibliography of Medieval Military History and Technology," which appeared in 2002. It is meant to do two things: to present references to works on medieval military history and technology not included in the first two volumes; and to present references to all books and articles published on medieval military history and technology from 2003 to 2006. These references are divided into the same categories as in the first two volumes and cover a chronological period of the same length, from late antiquity to 1648, again in order to present a more complete picture of influences on and from the Middle Ages. It also continues to cover the same geographical area as the first and second volume, in essence Europe and the Middle East, or, again, influences on and from this area. The languages of these bibliographical references reflect this geography.

Book Description
Military institutions and methods of warfare in the non-Western world from antiquity through the early 20th century provide the chief subjects of this annotated bibliography of works published before 1967. Especially rich in references to periodical literature, it emphasizes military organization and relationships between military and other social institutions, rather than wars and battles. The bibliography comprises seven parts: (1) general and comparative topics, including works on the social, cultural, and biological causes of war; (2) the ancient world; (3) western Eurasia since antiquity; (4) eastern Eurasia since antiquity; (5) sub-Saharan Africa and Oceania; (6) pre-Columbian America; and (7) Indians in post-contact America.

Book Description
The development treated in this volume of a variety of staff weapons in the Medieval and Renaissance periods in Europe is of importance, as the repeated success of their use caused substantive political changes. Their typology, use, and smithing techniques as well as correlations with contemporary artistic renditions, are discussed in great detail. Surviving specimens from museums and collections throughout the Western Hemisphere are used. Conservation issues are also dealt with. The book is heavily illustrated with black and white, color photographs and drawings and has a foreword by Walther Karcheski, Chief Curator of Arms and Armor of the Frazier Antique Arms Museum. It is intended as a reference for historical scholars, artists, museum curators, private collectors and the art market, and is a timely clarification of the nature of these arms.

Book Description
In May 1940, the Netherlands were overrun by German armed forces. The five-day campaign might seem to be a prime example of Blitzkrieg, which led shortly afterwards to the rapid and unexpected overthrow of France. This book, based on the newest scholarly research, argues that this is too simple a view. Even though the German assault on the Netherlands made use of tanks, aircraft and airborne troops, it was still a classic campaign against a weak opponent in a theater on the margins of Fall Gelb. In many instances, artillery and infantry were the decisive factors and it is debatable whether the bombing of Rotterdam can be seen as a precursor to the aerial terror campaigns against civilian populations that marked the later stages the Second World War. Contributors are H. Amersfoort, H.W. van den Doel, P.H. Kamphuis, P.M.J. de Koster, C.M. Schulten and J.W.M. Schulten.

Book Description
Crusader castles have been the subject of academic study for well over a century but the castles constructed by Muslim powers in greater Syria have been comparatively neglected. This series of studies looks at key developments and monuments in the history of Muslim military architecture in Syria from its beginnings under the Umayyads (661-750) down to Ottoman times. These studies range from ground-breaking archaeological studies to wide-ranging analysis of broader trends. The work is fully illustrated with photographs and plans, most of them never published before.
