Book Description
Excerpt from A Concise Introduction to Conveyancing This little work is rather an Introduction to Conveyances than an Introduction to Conveyancing. Its object is not so much to teach the student to draft, as to enable him to understand, assurances of land. No doubt to draft them intelligently one must understand the full import and operation of every phrase ordinarily used in such instruments, but to this extent every lawyer, whether a conveyancer or not, should have a knowledge of conveyancing. This has become the more necessary of late owing to recent legislation which has shortened forms of assurance by implying all sorts of covenants, conditions, and powers, no reference to which appears on the face of the deed. It is hoped on this account that the book may prove useful to every student of law, to whatever branch of practice he means ultimately to devote his chief attention. The method followed is to take an example of each of the chief forms of assurance and examine it clause by clause. It should be noted that the examples are drawn not to serve as precedents, but in order to raise the points which most need explanation.
