In this work, edge detections methodologies and their mathematical formulas are investigated and detailed concepts of fundamental operations of edge detection techniques and their comparison are presented. Old theories and research papers are also repeated and replicated in this paper. Methodologies that are investigated in research are first order edge detection that includes classical operators like Prewitt, Sobel and Robert, and the canny edge detection. These edge detection techniques are applied to different images like human face, plants, birds and cups etc. Classical operator as well as Canny operators are applied on digital image and investigated the simulated results of these operators and also investigate the mathematical reasons for their performances. After doing this, the research done makes a conclusion that Canny operator offers the best performance among the operators considered in this work but not give same results in all type of images, canny also failed to detect edges where image have more data. Simulation of edge detection techniques are carried out in Matlab and the comparison is made on the basis of the Matlab results and mathematical equations.

Book Description
The problem of detecting edges in gray level digital images is considered. A literature survey of the existing methods is presented. Based on the survey, two methods that are well accepted by a majority of investigators are identified. The methods selected are: 1) Laplacian of Gaussian (LoG) operator, and 2) An optimal detector based on maxima in gradient magnitude of a Gaussian-smoothed image. The latter has been proposed by Canny, and will be referred as Canny's method. The purpose of the thesis is to compare the performance of these popular methods. In order to increase the scope of such comparison, two additional methods are considered. First is one of the simplest methods, based on the first order approximation of the first derivative of the image. This method has the advantage of relatively low amount of computations. Second is an attempt to develop an edge fitting method based on eigenvector least-squared error fitting of an intensity profile. This method is developed with an intent to keep the edge localization errors small. All the four methods are coded and applied on several digital images, actual as well as synthesized. Results show that the LoG method and Canny's method perform quite well in general, and that demonstrates popularity of these methods. On the other hand, even the simplest method of first derivative is found to perform well if applied properly. Based on the results of the comparative study several critical issues related to edge detection are pointed out. Results also indicate feasibility of the proposed method based on eigenvector fit. Improvements and recommendation for further work are made.

Book Description
In the 21st century, many techniques have been invented to retrieve, store, extract, and process complex information contained by raw images obtained from cameras in the format of videos, images, or pure digital data. Edge detection is one of the most significant methods to extract object boundaries in image processing. It is an effective technique to preserve and highlight structural characteristics by filtering out useless background information. The theoretic work on building up specific algorithms on implementing edge detection has comprehensively built and implemented. Hence the focus of the paper is emphasizing the distinctions and assisting in verifying the reality of existing application and exploring others in the future. This paper will apply a serial of algorithms such as Sobel's cross operator, vector gradient operator, Prewitt operator, Laplacian operator, and Canny edge detection operator to comparatively reveal and analyze the distinctions from those processed images with those edge detection techniques. All of these algorithms implemented in code:: blocks using C language programming in this paper. This method helps to minimize the computational impact of different types of computer languages. This paper works can highly extended to more advanced and complicated algorithms that are developed to locate and identify the discontinuities of objects of images. The project represented in this paper is about fundamental edge detection methods. While in real-life, cases, the combination of various types of edge detection used to detect edge from specific images.

Book Description
In this book four new methods are proposed. In the first method the generalized type-2 fuzzy logic is combined with the morphological gra-dient technique. The second method combines the general type-2 fuzzy systems (GT2 FSs) and the Sobel operator; in the third approach the me-thodology based on Sobel operator and GT2 FSs is improved to be applied on color images. In the fourth approach, we proposed a novel edge detec-tion method where, a digital image is converted a generalized type-2 fuzzy image. In this book it is also included a comparative study of type-1, inter-val type-2 and generalized type-2 fuzzy systems as tools to enhance edge detection in digital images when used in conjunction with the morphologi-cal gradient and the Sobel operator. The proposed generalized type-2 fuzzy edge detection methods were tested with benchmark images and synthetic images, in a grayscale and color format. Another contribution in this book is that the generalized type-2 fuzzy edge detector method is applied in the preprocessing phase of a face rec-ognition system; where the recognition system is based on a monolithic neural network. The aim of this part of the book is to show the advantage of using a generalized type-2 fuzzy edge detector in pattern recognition applications. The main goal of using generalized type-2 fuzzy logic in edge detec-tion applications is to provide them with the ability to handle uncertainty in processing real world images; otherwise, to demonstrate that a GT2 FS has a better performance than the edge detection methods based on type-1 and type-2 fuzzy logic systems.

Book Description
Nowadays, integrated land management is generally governed by the principles of sustainability. Land use management usually is grounded in satellite image information. The detection and monitoring of areas of interest in satellite images is a difficult task. We propose a new methodology for the adaptive selection of edge detection algorithms using visual features of satellite images and the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method. It is not trivial to select the most appropriate method for the chosen satellite images as there is no proper algorithm for all cases as it depends on many factors, like acquisition and content of the raster images, visual features of realworld images, and humans’ visual perception. The edge detection algorithms were ranked according to their suitability for the appropriate satellite images using the neutrosophic weighted aggregated sum product assessment (WASPAS) method. The results obtained using the created methodology were verified with results acquired in an alternative way—using the edge detection algorithms for specific images. This methodology facilitates the selection of a proper edge detector for the chosen image content.
