Book Description
40 Days in the Wilderness is an addiction recovery Devotional and Bible Study program designed to be used by Churches, counselors, Church home groups, existing addiction recovery programs and groups, homeless shelters, jail and prison ministries and chaplains, as well as by individuals seeking God's direction, through scripture, in defeating satan's bondage of addictions to drugs and alcohol. Each day's devotional message and accompanying scripture readings can be carried over into additional Bible studies on that day's topics depending on how much time someone wants to allocate or devote to the program. It is recommended that the program be finished in 40 days to better benefit from each previous day's message. However, it will be better to finish the devotionals rather than give up because you can't get it done in forty days. If extending it to a 20 or 40 week program better fits your schedule, there may be a bigger benefit in having a full week to reflect on the day's reading topic and scripture, and practicing what you're learning could be a powerfully transforming experience as well. 40 Days in the Wilderness offers you an opportunity to be mentored by someone who has been SAVED and SOBER for 32 years, has facilitated hundreds of addiction recovery meetings in and out of many Churches, has written several books on the subject, and maintains several websites on the subject of addiction recovery in the Church. However, my experience will be futile if you don't take my suggestions to Jesus in prayer for His confirmation. I suggest that you be as the Bereans did in Acts 17:11 in all that you do in life, to protect yourself from all the deception in the world! The fundamental message in this program is found in Matthew 6:33 (KJV) "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." God won't mislead you, man most assuredly will whenever you let your guard down! Man has been misleading millions of alcoholics and addicts around the world for decades in and out of addiction recovery programs because of the absence of Jesus Christ in those programs! 40 Days in the Wilderness puts Jesus Christ at the forefront of each day's devotional!

It can be harder to feel God’s love and presence during times of suffering. In this devotional, we will explore what God’s Word has to say about doubt, depression, anxiety, assurance, disease, and suffering in general. We will be reminded of God’s character- His compassion, His grace, and His faithfulness. We will explore some of the reasons for our suffering. And we will be reminded that God is good. We can trust God, no matter how bad our circumstances may seem. God is with us in our suffering. He never leaves our side, and He promises that “all things work together for good to them that love God” (Romans 8:28 KJV).

Book Description
40 is a significant number in biblical studies. God made major changes and transformations after the period of 40 days, and in the case of the Israelite's, 40 years. Learn about the significance of the number 40, and be prepared for your own 40-day miracle of understanding and perhaps healing. The Wilderness Voyage Series is designed to help you gain spiritual understanding and breakthrough in specific areas. Each 40-day devotional guide focuses on what the bible teaches on a specific subject and is designed to help you grow in that area. Book 1 addresses BITTER ROOTS. The bitter roots we carry actually hold control over us -- even if it's on a subconscious level. They dictate how we respond to everything. As long as we allow them to continue to grow in us, they will maintain the control of our actions and responses. We all know that when we have weeds in our gardens, cutting off the tops does not take care of the problem. They just grow back. In order to get rid of the weeds so it does not choke the rest of the plants, you have to dig deep to get all of the roots out. It's the same with bitter roots growing inside of us. Let's take a close look at what the bible teaches us about bitter roots, what we can do about them and how we can protect ourselves from them.

It can be summed up easily with 1 word -- SELF-WILL. It is a demonstration of self-will. So why is rebellion so dangerous? It is not just outward behaviors, but an inner turmoil...a heart issue and a complete attitude problem. It brings judgment and turmoil. It destroys you, your health, your prosperity and your relationships. It can grow like a malignant cancer encompassing your whole being and spreading out to those around you.

Book Description
A positive transformation of the heart and soul is methodically pursued in this 31-day recovery devotional. Attitudes can improve. Good habits can solidify. Choices become healthier. Scar tissues heal and relationships can mend. By faith, we can reach beyond the fallout of our mistakes, wounded identities, hardened hearts and misfortunes. We can begin to experience the peace and joy which Christ intends for us. To fail in one’s recovery is to live in defeat; it is to be miserable no matter how well-disguised. The poisoned arrows from the pit are many. Discouragement gets piled high as we look into the condemning mirror of lies pushed in front of our face each day by the accuser. Defeated under the weight of our failure and nearsightedness, we lose hope. Our Redeemer offers an amazingly reasonable answer. In-Christ, we can daily receive the power and initiative to reach above and beyond self. We’re given the courage to deliberately choose Truth.

Book Description
The blazing sun scorched the back of his neck, as the Son of the Living God seared the palms of his hands picking a handful of sand while praying it was instead, cool, life-nourishing water. It wasn't! Following Jesus' baptism, God bellowed from beyond the clouds affirming Jesus as his Beloved Son and telling everyone present that he was very pleased with him. Then, immediately after, God sent his Beloved Son into the wilderness for 40 days. Wandering for miles east of the Jordan River, Jesus would be tempted by the devil, fight his own inner demons, and prepare for his upcoming ministry. Jesus withstood the temptations the devil placed before him and God sent angels to comfort him. Furthermore, God had set in motion a mission for Jesus that would end with the cross. Now, more than ever, Jesus was prepared to tackle this important and taxing mission. In a very identical and intentional parallel, the Israelites were forced to wander in their own wilderness, nearly 1500 years earlier. Also east of the Jordan River, only for 40 years instead of 40 days, they too were tried and tempted in order to prepare for God's promises. Forty years of murmuring and complaining. Forty years of war and survival. Forty years of protection, provision, and preparation. Once God was finished cleansing the Israelites and preparing them for his fulfilled promises, they were finally ready to embrace everything God had prepared for them and to providentially exceed even their own expectations. The wilderness is essential to the love story of God and his beloved! Prior to embracing our divine calling, we are all forced to battle our demons and prepare for God's promises. This preparation, amongst the wildernesses of life, can be extremely daunting and our faith is wrung through some of the most torturous testing devices. This devotion delivers a simple, yet consequential resource where followers of the Beloved Son of God, can venture back to those days when God's people wandered through the wilderness and were tested in preparation for their Promised Land. Here, we can also reflect on our own wilderness experiences and discover how God is preparing each and every one of his Beloved Children for their own Promised Land--God's divine purpose for their lives. Each one of the 40 days includes the following:Today's Passage: This is the Scripture reading for that particular devotional and is one passage from the books of Exodus, Numbers, or Deuteronomy. Please use your favorite translation and read the passage at your own leisure. Take time to engross yourself in the passage.Today's Verse: This is the key Bible verse for the day's devotional. The key Bible verse encompasses the main point of the message and passage.Today's Thoughts: This is a relatable and applicable story from the life or mind of the author. After reading the passage and reflecting on his God, the author wrote down his thoughts, confessions, and applications. Today's time with Yahweh: This provides you with some statements or questions upon which you can reflect, meditate, or journal. Feel free to write down your thoughts on a separate piece of paper, a notebook, or simply spend some time in quiet meditative thought. This is your time with Yahweh...use it in a way that is most comfortable and applicable for you and your own spiritual journey. After a few weeks reading and pondering some of the struggles God's people endured in the wilderness, you will come to a new understanding regarding your own trials and how they relate to God and God's purpose for your life. Yahweh sends his beloved children into the wilderness for a reason. Hopefully this devotion will shed some light on why you're experiencing some of the things you're experiencing, and how you can endure those trials and come out at the end...on the shores of the Jordan...ready to embrace all the promises God has in store for you.
