Book Description
Throughout the history of naval rotary wing aviation, aircrews have had to adapt to expanding missions and changing threats. As our Navy transforms to meet the challenges of 21st century, helicopters will continue to play a critical warfighting role. Despite the obvious requirement, few Navy helicopters are equipped to execute the missions they are tasked to accomplish. By arming less than a quarter of the fleet, the Helicopter Concept of Operations (CONOPS) does little to resolve this shortfall. It is time Navy leadership break the paradigm, envision the Navy helicopter as a combat platform and equip it appropriately. We must arm all Navy helicopters with robust and flexible weapon systems so they can respond to the demands of 21st century warfare.

Book Description
This three-volume reference work provides an up-to-date presentation and analysis of the U.S. wars of the 21st century, addressing their backgrounds, causes, courses, and consequences. It serves as an indispensable resource for students seeking to understand the role of the United States in the world today. Addressing the U.S. conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Global War on Terror from the year 2001 to the present, this comprehensive, three-volume encyclopedia covers the significant individuals, key events, and important places involved in these recent military events. Beginning with the rise of Al Qaeda in the 1990s and the attacks on September 11, 2001, and covering events through ISIS's dramatic surge in Iraq and Syria, the hundreds of detailed entries also examine historical trends; nations and ethnicities involved in the conflicts; influential figures and organizations; economic, political, diplomatic, and cultural influences; wars, campaigns, and battles; and important weapons systems. The set's A–Z organization makes it an easy-to-use ready reference for high school and college students. Perspective essays on several controversial topics—such as the use of torture and the effects of the Patriot Act—serve to inspire readers to apply critical thinking. A detailed chronology is provided to help students place all the important events that have occurred in the Afghanistan War, Iraq War, and War on Terror. Each of the chronologically arranged primary documents is introduced with a brief overview to provide important background information and context.

Book Description
The end of the Cold War did not bring an end to the challenges facing the defense of the United States. In fact, the world has become more unstable with the dismantling of the Soviet Union. The flow of sophisticated arms to anyone with hard currency has increased regional instability. Ethnic and religious strife has re-emerged. And as the armed forces of small countries acquire high technology weapons, the threat of eventual American involvement increases. Shrinking American defense budgets and reduced U.S. presence overseas will require a smaller, highly mobile Army. An Army that can rapidly deploy to trouble spots around the globe, find and defeat a wide range of threats, and be supportable in the field without a burdensome logistics tail. DoD studies reveal that battlefield success is heavily contingent on good reconnaissance. And Desert Storm proved that satellite and fixed wing reconnaissance assets cannot provide the close battle target information needed in highly fluid tactical situations. Neither can the Army's current light helicopter fleet. The 0H-58, OH-6, and AH-1 light helicopters are over 30 years old when the first Comanche is fielded. They lack range, speed, payload, and agility. They are expensive to operate, especially in harsh desert environments. They lack low observable features necessary to operate and survive on the modern battlefield, and are vulnerable to ground fire. They cannot operate safely at night or in adverse weather. And, they cannot be upgraded to meet the challenges the U.S. will face in the future. Only RAH-66 Comanche has been designed to fulfill these requirements and enhance the effectiveness of Army Force Projections.

Book Description
The last comprehensive study of defense logistics was published in 1959. In the ensuing forty-five years a revolutionary change in information technology and defense strategy has swept the field and mandated a new understanding of the objectives and principles of military logistics. The author, renowned defense logistics expert General William Tuttle, covers all aspects of the subject including force projection, force sustainment, and minimizing the logistics "footprint" in battle spaces. Within these objectives, he includes five principles that are employed to assess the effectiveness of the process and identifies their shortfalls and remedies. He also illuminates the major influences of culture and politics on defense logistics and proposes ways to minimize their adverse impact on combat readiness. Written for defense logistics leaders —those currently coping with the challenges and those logistics aspiring to lead —and for everyone involved in the complexities of planning and strategy, this up-to-date volume is sure to become a hallmark in the field.
