Everyone knows what it is like to go from periods of immense sadness to moments of intense happiness. This collection incorporates true stories, fictional stories, and others’ stories in the form of poetry encapsulated in emotion. I write about emotions that are otherwise hard to deal with, social issues, and mental illness. The title Zigzags & Glow Sticks is supposed to symbolize the intensity of the ups and downs of life, the parts that never seem to get better, and the parts that feel so great. No matter who you are and where you come from, this book is for you.

Book Description
The poems in this book are about the constant battle or the war within an addicts mind. The war of emotions and denial, the grief and the guilt. Encompasses the need to cling to mind altering substances, and also the need to let them go. These pages also go into the addicts mind when it comes to growth and empowerment of sobriety along with everyday struggles and happiness. The loss of love and redefining who a person is by love, laughter and tears. The beautiful blossom of a mother given a second chance. The growth that resides in all of these emotions properly expressed. A reminder to be kind and compassionate, to help instead of judging. Never ending is the struggle to be better than we were yesterday, never ending is the war within us all.

Book Description
My book takes a look inside a child born with ABS (amniotic band syndrome). I share my life story with the world. I hope my journey inspires everyone who picks this book up to read; it can make them feel at ease knowing they are not alone. My story will help anybody who has been bullied, who thought about committing suicide. Know that no matter what gets thrown at you, just remember to battle through it. Just know that you’re not born different. You are unique. This book is inspired by my wife, Pamela, who always loved me for me. Never seeing me different, she always believed in me when I didn’t believe or love myself. Thank you for always supporting me. My son Alijah was born three and a half months early, weighing in at 1 lb. 6 oz. and spent 104 days in the CHKD NICU. So watching him fight to live motivated and inspired me to share my story.

Ninevere -- the powerful, bloodthirsty mutants of the human world, hunted to no end by the people who fear them. Selvia didn’t choose to be a Ninevere, and after the death of her mother, there is no other option but to go out into the world that despises her so much. Lord Luther Heren, Regent of the country of Bellora, is a young man with few allies and even fewer enemies -- or so he thought. When he discovers that a tame Ninevere has entered his city and that the rulers of rival Vay’Mul want his head, what else is there to do but befriend and train the woman to fight for his country? From debut author Shayl McHugh comes a story of friendship, where the snap of fingers can transport you to a world of intense magic, brutal murder, and unsettling mystery.

Book Description
Poetics of Cognition investigates the material effects of experimental poetics using new evidence emerging from cognitive science. It asks: How do experimental poems “think” and how do we think through them? Examining experimental modes such as the New Sentence, proceduralism, projective verse, sound poetry, and visual poetry, Jessica Lewis Luck argues that experimental poems materialize not so much the content as the activity of the embodied mind, and they can thus function as a powerful scaffolding for extended cognition, both for the writer and the reader. While current critical approaches tend to describe the effects of experimentalism solely in terms of emotion and sensation, Luck shifts from the feeling to the thinking that these poems can generate, expanding the potential blast radius of experimental poetic effects into areas of linguistic, sonic, and visual processing and revealing a transformational potency that strictly affective approaches miss. The cognitive research Luck draws upon suggests that the strangeness of experimental poetry can reshape the activity of the reader’s mind, creating new forms of attention, perception, and cognition. This book closes by shifting from theory to praxis, extracting forms of teaching from the forms of thinking that experimental poems instill in order to better enable their transformative effects in readers and to bring poetry pedagogy into the twenty-first century.

Book Description
It's southern California in the early Sixties, and Charlotte is a teenager, which is bad enough. She also has strange grandparents, with whom she lives, a schizophrenic ventriloquist alcoholic mother who appears and disappears regularly from her life, and only vague information about the father who died before Charlotte was born. With so much craziness in the family, Charlotte figures, whether it's "nature" or "nurture," she's doomed. In Failure to Zigzag, Jane Vandenburgh gracefully zigzags between hilarity and sorrow as she recounts Charlotte's attempts to grow up and to practice "sanity as a form of revenge."
