Book Description
This first US publication of Erez Bitton, one of Israel's most celebrated poets, recalls the fate of Moroccan Jewish culture with poems both evocative and pure. Considered the founding father of Mizrahi Israeli, a major tradition in the history of Hebrew poetry, Bitton's bilingual collection dramatically expands the scope of biographical experience and memory, ultimately resurrecting a vanishing world and culture. Preliminary Background Words My mother my mother from a village of shrubs green of a different green. From a bird's nest producing milk sweeter than sweet. From a nightingale's cradle of a thousand Arabian nights. My mother my mother who staved off evil with her middle fingers with beating her chest on behalf of all mothers. My father my father who delved into worlds who sanctified the Sabbath with pure Araq who was most practiced in synagogue traditions. And I— having distanced myself deep into my heart would recite when all were asleep short Bach masses deep into my heart in Jewish- Moroccan. Erez Bitton was born in 1942 to Moroccan parents in Oran, Algeria, and emigrated to Israel in 1948. Blinded by a stray hand grenade in Lod, he spent his childhood in Jerusalem's School for the Blind. He is considered the founding father of Mizrahi poetry in Israel—the first poet to take on the conflict between North African immigrants and the Ashkenazi society, and the first to use Judeo-Arabic dialect in his poetry. His most recent award is the Bialik Lifetime Achievement Award (2014).

Book Description
Neuropsychologist Offers Hope to Those Struggling with Depression As a board-certified neuropsychologist, Dr. Michelle Bengtson sees the devastation of depression. Early on, she practiced the most effective treatments and prescribed them for her clients. But when she experienced depression herself, she found that the treatments she had recommended were lacking. Her experience showed her the missing component in treating depression. In Hope Prevails, Dr. Bengtson writes with deep compassion, blending her training and faith, to offer readers a hope grounded in God's love and grace. She helps readers understand what depression is, how it affects them spiritually, and what, by God's grace, it cannot do. The result is an approach that offers the hope of release, not just the management of symptoms. For those who struggle with depression and those who want to help them, Hope Prevails offers hope for the future.

Book Description
The Path of Return Trilogy is a remarkable literary contribution outside the commercial romance and detective formulas - a raw tale painted with heartfelt humor which captures the innocence of imagination and the mystical forces that navigate life. In the first novel, Jamayah: Adventures on the Path of Return, baby-boomer Bob Kramer arrives in mid-life crisis with a job loss and recent divorce. Jamayah, an unlikely cosmopolitan guru, mysteriously recruits Bob as an initiate on the Path of Return - a fusion of wisdom traditions tempered toward paranormal mastery and cosmic awareness. The progressively intense challenge is how Bob will reconcile his scientific skepticism in a mystical adventure that embraces a strip bar and the horrors of war. In the end, Bob returns to ordinary life, but feels detached, alone, and indifferent - a malaise Jamayah reframes as having passed a sacred rite of passage. The sequel, Collateral Karma, opens after Rickshaw Lubowski (formerly Bob Kramer) has ditched the Path of Return in search of more tangible things - like sex, occultism, and sorcery. As a result, he becomes the target of a curse cast by the evil leader of a ceremonial cult who practices ritual sex and black magick. Rickshaw's descent into the world of sensation and desire incurs mysterious nightmares all too real, starting with the obsessively expected death of his new fianc . Desperate, he meets a blind fortuneteller who knows more about his destiny than anyone should and with whom he falls in love. Only when he loses touch with reality does his mentor, Jamayah, appear. Together, they join forces with shamanic sorcerers to reverse the deadly curse. The last novel in the series, Letters from the Afterworld, begins with Rickshaw reminiscing about his marriage to Crystal a year before. Rickshaw attends a seance in Los Angeles conducted by a medium with a gift for automatic writing and receives a channeled letter for his friend Murdock. Evidently, Murdock is on a soul recall list for people whose souls prematurely inhabited their selected bodies. Other friends of Rickshaw have dreams of the same recall letters and incur near fatal illnesses and accidents. Jamayah distrusts the source of the afterworld letters and believes hybrid souls (who formerly incarnated on an alien planet), are exploiting humans for metabolic enzymes through enzymatic blood transfusions. Stakes are raised when Rattlesnake Dan and Murdock are kidnapped and a ten year old boy is murdered. Finally, Rickshaw, Jamayah, SBL, Weird Willie, Raoul, Juan, Apollo, and Billy the Kid mobilize the Cosmic Rangers with the pledge of liberty and justice for all.

Book Description
Observers often assume that American Indians identifying themselves as Christian have assimilated into the larger Anglo world. The Oklahoma Seminole Baptists have actively adapted non-native structures to accommodate their community needs. They gather several times weekly in steepled churches for prayers, hymn singing, and sermons based on biblical texts. But they conduct services primarily in the Mvskoke language and practice Native customs, such as fasting in the woods and constructing grave houses to shelter the spirit as it returns to visit the body. Schultz traces the history of the Seminoles to the present day. He then discusses Seminole Baptist beliefs and practices, leadership roles, and the church's organizational structure, illustrating his observations with a detailed account of the social life of a single congregation.
