Book Description
The fourth volume of this Yearbook provides essays, articles, comments and analyses of developments throughout the previous year. The new essay section of this volume is contributed by Shangquan Gao, Senior Professor in the State Council of PRC who examines the negative influence of the Asian financial crisis on China. One of the salient features of the volume is that it focuses on new developments in post-financial crisis restructuring measures taken by various countries, such as PRC, Brazil and Japan. Complementary to this issue, globalisation, international financial stability, and international capital flows are also discussed comprehensively. The period covered by the volume has witnessed major financial and economic law reform projects in various areas of the world. The volume offers comprehensive analysis of these reforms including the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 in the US and its influence on the global financial sector, progress in collateral law reform in Central and Eastern Europe, the development of securities law and the Internet in the UK, commercialisation of China's land use right, reform of Hong Kong property tax system, and legal changes in Japanese asset securitisation and investment. Some issues are re-explored in this volume from new and different perspectives. The discussion of the integration of insurance and other financial services in Taiwan, of the Lender of Last Resort, of the solutions to the non-performing loan problems in China, of capital adequacy under the Basle new capital adequacy framework, and sovereign debt restructuring in Latin America will offer the readers new insights into these issues.

Book Description
Volume 7 of the EYIEL focusses on critical perspectives of international economic law. Recent protests against free trade agreements such as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) remind us that international economic law has always been a politically and legally contested field. This volume collects critical contributions on trade, investment, financial and other subfields of international economic law from scholars who have shaped this debate for many years. The critical contributions to this volume are challenged and sometimes rejected by commentators who have been invited to be “critical with the critics”. The result is a unique collection of critical essays accompanied by alternative and competing views on some of the most fundamental topics of international economic law. In its section on regional developments, EYIEL 7 addresses recent megaregional and plurilateral trade and investment agreements and negotiations. Short insights on various aspects of the Transpacific Partnership (TPP) and its sister TTIP are complemented with comments on other developments, including the African Tripartite FTA und the negotiations on a plurilateral Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA). Further sections address recent WTO and investment case law as well as recent developments concerning the IMF, UNCTAD and the WCO. The volume closes with reviews of recent books in international economic law.

Book Description
The integration of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States international financial system was arguably one of the most profound changes experienced by the world economy in the 1990s. This book examines these countries in reforming their financial systems in the first decade of transition. Through case studies as well as more thematic approaches contributors deal with crucial elements of building a market-based financial system, the transformation of the banking sector, and non-bank reform and regulation of financial markets. They emphasise the importance of institution-building to the process of financial sector transformation and highlight the lessons to be learned from transitional financial experiences.
