Book Description
Published for 40 years, the 1,000 page hard-cover Yearbook remains an indispensable tool to economists, researchers, central banks, international agencies, multi-national corporations & banks. A "must-have" for public, corporate & university libraries, it is the sole source of 4 decades of free & parallel (including black) market rates for all currencies. In country-by-country reports, the Yearbook discusses the economics, politics & exchange restrictions of over 180 countries worldwide, & the effect of each on currency exchange rates. Depending on foreign exchange controls, supply versus demand for hard currencies, & the economic & political conditions of a given country, the value of its local currency may appreciate or depreciate relative to a given hard currency. In addition, when a preference develops for currencies other than the local one, due to economic or political deterioration, tight exchange controls or a mistrust of the banking & governmental systems, the valuation of the local currency in non-governmental & non-banking transactions becomes negotiable, & may deviate starkly from the official exchange guidelines. That "unofficial" exchange rate used by residents has been observed to be a leading indicator of an unravelling of a currency's worth in the official F-X market & has had tremendous predictive value in estimating the timing & revised exchange rates in devaluations. A separate MONTHLY newsletter, the GLOBAL CURRENCY REPORT (ISSN 1086-0320), apprises subscribers of critical changes in foreign exchange policy; discusses the variables that influence exchange rates; provides monthly statistics on all exchange rates - official, parallel, black & free; & includes comprehensive country profiles, feature articles & graphs illustrating official-unofficial F-X rate spreads for emerging market currencies. Both products are available through Currency Data & Intelligence, Inc., New York, NY 11238. (718) 230- 7176.

Book Description
This 2016 yearbook issue of International Financial Statistics is a standard source of statistics on all aspects of international and domestic finance. The monthly printed issue of IFS reports current monthly, quarterly, and annual data, while the yearbook reports 12 observations of annual data. Most annual data on the CD-ROM and Internet begin in 1948; quarterly and monthly data generally begin in 1957; most balance-of-payments data begin in 1970. The notes to the country tables in the monthly issues provide information about exceptions in the choice of the consumer price index (generally line 64) and the period average exchange rate index. Quotas are reviewed at intervals of not more than five years. The reviews take account of changes in the relative economic positions of members and the growth of the world economy. The General Resources Account resources consist of the currencies of Fund member countries, SDRs, and gold.

Book Description
This 2018 yearbook issue of International Financial Statistics (IFS) is a standard source of statistics on all aspects of international and domestic finance. The IMF publishes calculated effective exchange rates data only for countries that have given their approval. The country, euro area, and world tables provide measures of effective exchange rates, compiled by the IMF’s Research Department, Statistics Department, and area departments. The real effective exchange rate index in line rec is derived from the nominal effective exchange rate index, adjusted for relative changes in consumer prices. Consumer price indices, often available monthly, are used as a measure of domestic costs and prices for these countries.
