Book Description
When is the "right" time? How can I meet the demands of a professorship whilst caring for a young family? Choosing to become a mother has a profound effect on the career path of women holding academic positions, especially in the physical sciences. Yet many women successfully manage to do both. In this book 15 inspirational personal accounts describe the challenges and rewards of combining motherhood with an academic career in chemistry. The authors are all women at different stages of their career and from a range of colleges, in tenure and non-tenure track positions. Aimed at undergraduate and graduate students of chemistry, these contributions serve as examples for women considering a career in academia but worry about how this can be balanced with other important aspects of life. The authors describe how they overcame particular challenges, but also highlight aspects of the systems which could be improved to accommodate women academics and particularly encourage more women to take on academic positions in the sciences.

Book Description
In this collection, both individually and collectively, the authors explore the gendering of women's experiences in academia through the lens of narratives of lived experience. This is a cogent theme throughout the book, reflecting on women's experiences as intersectional-always raced, classed, gendered, nuanced and complex. Jointly, the chapters provide important insights into individual and collective contemporary women's experiences in academia from international perspectives, such as gender equity, barriers to success, and achievement. This comprehensive volume provides a reference point for all women and their colleagues working in universities and colleges across the world.

Book Description
We are delighted to present the 2022 Women in Chemistry article collection. Following the celebration of International Women’s Day 2022, the UNESCO International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Frontiers in Chemistry is proud to offer this platform to promote the work of women scientists, across all branches of Chemistry. At present, less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women. Long-standing biases and gender stereotypes are discouraging girls and women away from science-related fields, and STEM research in particular. Chemistry is no exception to this. Science and gender equality are, however, essential to ensure sustainable development as highlighted by UNESCO. In order to change traditional mindsets, gender equality must be promoted, stereotypes defeated, and girls and women should be encouraged to pursue STEM careers.

Book Description
The first NATO Science Forum was held in Biarritz in September 1990. This Taormina Conference is the second in a series that we wish to be a long one and I believe that it has equalled the success of its predecessor. In setting up these meetings the NATO Science Committee wanted to gather leading experts to review fields of strong present interest. It was intended that presentations and discussions should pay special attention to potential developments. This "forward look" is indeed precious to us in mapping out the evolution of our Science Programme but more importantly, it is an essential part of the progress of Science. I believe that NATO, being able to bring together eminent scientists from both sides of the Atlantic, is in a priviliged position to provide this service to our Scientific Community. It was only proper that Chemistry should be one of the first areas to be targeted: a central science with many rich borders touching on other disciplines, it deserved the full attention of our Committee. In its vast domain, among many possible topics, the present one was carefully selected and its choice resulted from an extensive consultation of many leading chemists. The large fraction of replies which pointed to Supramolecular Chemistry left us with little doubt about the timeliness of a Forum in this area and the strong interest attached to it.

Book Description
Increasing numbers of researchers are using arts-based, embodied or creative methods. They promote rapport and connection, facilitating research that reaches beyond surface understanding to expose authentic stories and hidden, richer truths. Whilst powerful, these methods can have unintended consequences and the potential for harm. Drawing on case studies and lessons learned from programmes and work across research, therapy, education, art and science, this engaging book explores and demonstrates the porous borders of research. It invites researchers to reflect and consider the boundaries and consequences of their work in order to deepen and widen its applicability and impact across science, art, education and therapy.

Book Description
Drawing on the continued wealth of photochemical research, this volume combines reviews on the latest advances in the field with specific topical highlights. Starting with periodical reports of the recent literature on physical and inorganic aspects, light induced reactions in cryogenic matrices, properties of transition-metal compounds, time-resolved spectroscopy, the exploitation of solar energy and the molecules of colour. Coverage continues with highlighted topics, in the second part, from photoresponsive hydrogels, the tunable photoredox properties of organic dyes, light-driven asymmetric organocatalytic processes, dual gold–photoredox catalysis, the preparation and characterization of photosensitizers for triplet–triplet annihilation photon upconversion and the role of photochemistry on traditional synthetic processes. This volume will include for the first time a section entitled ‘SPR Lectures on Photochemistry’, providing examples for academic readers to introduce a photochemistry topic and precious help for students in photochemistry. Providing critical analysis of the topics, this book is essential reading for anyone wanting to keep up to date with the literature on photochemistry and its applications.
