Book Description
When I slept upstairs I would wake up and hear noises during the night. Thats when I got really scared of the dark. I was too scared to go downstairs to the bathroom so I wet the bed. I never used to wet the bed. Now I was wetting the bed all the time. What made me start doing that? I dont remember wetting the bed before this. Did Thomas and I get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night? Did our mom get us up and take us to the bathroom? All I knew was that I was wetting the bed every night and Thomas was making fun of me for it. I was really scared of the dark now. I dont know why I started being so afraid of the dark. What happened to make me be so afraid? This is a raw and powerful story of a woman who has suffered from multiple kinds of abuse and how it has affected every aspect of her life. She has gone through incest, childhood sexual abuse, and mental and verbal abuse. She begins by introducing you to her family and her story starts from there. She goes through her childhood, adult life, and up to the present. She is candid in the way she writes the story of her life. She tells you when and how the sexual abuse happened, how she felt about it at the time, and how it is still affecting her today. She was fifty five when she faced the abuse and started healing from the devastating effects it had on her life. She felt a need to tell her story and it took a lot of courage for her to disclose her life in such an open and honest way. Her story will give you hope and inspiration that you can heal at any age of your life.

Book Description
(ages 9 - 12) This collection of stories and interviews is the result of a simple question: "Why won't you start smoking?" Readers won't feel like they are being preached to, because the anti-tobacco message is being delivered by kids just like them. The stories, based on life experiences and observations, are diverse, personal, and smart – sometimes painful, sometimes funny. The ten reasons include the poor health of parents who smoke, addiction, self-image, the environment, and relationships. Our young contributors also bring up issues that kids might not consider, such as how cigarettes affect one's personal appearance, athletic performance, and bank account. The media's portrayal of smoking and the unscrupulous marketing tactics used by tobacco companies are also discussed. The stories are complemented by edgy illustrations, examples of anti-tobacco activism, quotes from nonsmoking celebrities, a foreword by Christy Turlington, important health facts, "instant history facts," and other sidebars which present the ugly truth about cigarettes.

Book Description
Beginning with the Grand Rapids Dam in the 1960s, hydroelectric development has dramatically altered the social, political, and physical landscape of northern Manitoba. The Nelson River has been cut up into segments and fractured by a string of dams, for which the Churchill River had to be diverted and new inflow points from Lake Winnipeg created to manage their capacity. Historic mighty rapids have shrivelled into dry river beds. Manitoba Hydro's Keeyask dam and generating station will expand the existing network of 15 dams and 13,800 km of transmission lines. In Our Backyard tells the story of the Keeyask dam and accompanying development on the Nelson River from the perspective of Indigenous peoples, academics, scientists, and regulators. It builds on the rich environmental and economic evaluations documented in the Clean Environment Commission’s public hearings on Keeyask in 2012. It amplifies Indigenous voices that environmental assessment and regulatory processes have often failed to incorporate and provides a basis for ongoing decision-making and scholarship relating to Keeyask and resource development more generally. It considers cumulative, regional, and strategic impact assessments; Indigenous worldviews and laws within the regulatory and decision-making process; the economics of development; models for monitoring and management; consideration of affected species; and cultural and social impacts. With a provincial and federal regulatory regime that is struggling with important questions around the balance between development and sustainability, and in light of the inherent rights of Indigenous people to land, livelihoods, and self-determination, In Our Backyard offers critical reflections that highlight the need for purposeful dialogue, principled decision making, and a better legacy of northern development in the future.

Book Description
Winning Not Fighting draws on the philosophy of Wing Tsun, an ancient Chinese martial art, to offer a profound and practical guide to achieving success at work, life and business. By explaining what these teachings reveal about decision-making, professional relationships, personal targets and positivity, it challenges some of our deepest-held assumptions and forces us to unlearn many ideas that inform our current ideas on professional success. Why, for example, do we refer to business through a lens of conflict? Why does winning always require confrontation, competition and a loser? John Vincent and Julian Hitch challenge our ingrained assumptions about success and achievement to to guide us through a path of self-cultivation using the eight wisdoms of Wing Tsun. John Vincent, the co-founder of LEON, has applied these mantras to his healthy fast- food empire with enormous success. In Winning Not Fighting, he collaborates with Wing Tsun master, Sifu Julian Hitch to sculpt this timeless wisdom into a practical and accessible guide to achieving success for your business.
