Book Description
Our sense of history shapes how we think about ourselves. One of the distinguishing features of the left in Britain is that it holds to a remorselessly bleak and miserabilist view of our recent political history — one in which Margaret Thatcher's election in 1979 marked the start of a still-continuing fall from political grace made evident by the triumph of a free market get-what-you-can neoliberal ideology, dizzying levels of inequality, social decay, rampant individualism, state authoritarianism, and political corruption. The left does not like what has happened to us and it does not like what we have become. Andrew Hindmoor argues that this history is wrong and self-harming. It is wrong because Britain has in many respects become a more politically attractive and progressive country over the last few decades. It is self-harming because this bleak history undermines faith in politics. Post-Brexit, post-Grenfell, and post the 2010, 2015, and 2017 general elections, things may not, right now, look that great. But looked at over the longer haul, Britain is a long way from being a posterchild for neoliberalism. Left-wing ideas and arguments have shaped and continue to shape our politics.

That's What You Think
Author: Joyce Bortnick
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1479727571
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 368
Book Description
That's What You Think chronicles Sara Ellis's journey from independence to dependence. Although the story is based on her own mother's dilemmas in aging, beginning when her mother turned eighty-eight years-old, Joyce found the writing to be both joyous and cathartic to fictionalize. "The writing helped me to believe that my mother really thought these things that make this book my heartfelt gift to her memory. "For a long time, sadness blocked me from finishing our story, but my mother's dignity and the time I spent with her encouraged me to translate the traumas of aging into a story of love and respect. "Thank you, Mom, for taking me with you in your final hours."

The Outsider
Author: Paul M. Sniderman
Publisher: Princeton University Press
ISBN: 9780691094977
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 232
Book Description
"The study of prejudice has been stimulated, but also limited, by the development of competing partial theories. Prejudice and group conflict are said to be rooted in the psychological makeup of individuals, or alternatively, to spring from real competition over material goods or social status, or yet again, to follow in the wake of a quest for identity. But the principal proponents of each theory have insisted that just so far as their approach is right, then at least one of the others must be wrong, or at most of marginal importance. It is the distinctive effort of The Outsider to develop a unified theory of prejudice integrating personality, realistic conflict, and social identity approaches."--Jacket.

ZOMBIE CAMPS
Author: JEREMY TUBBS
Publisher: Jeremy Tubbs
ISBN:
Category : Comics & Graphic Novels
Languages : en
Pages : 15
Book Description
This story unfolds in a dystopian future where humanity is on the brink of extinction, overtaken by a deadly virus—COVID-20—that turns people into zombies. In this world, the government has seized control, creating massive camps where zombies are contained, studied, and repurposed. But the twist? Instead of eradicating the zombies, the government has developed a "cure" that keeps them docile, transforming them into obedient workers and stripping away their humanity. The protagonist, David, is one of the few surviving humans assigned to manage these camps, grappling with the surreal and disturbing reality around him. As he struggles with his grief and loss, David begins to unravel the sinister plans behind the government’s actions. The camps, the experiments, and the relentless turning on of the CERN collider hint at something much darker. David suspects that the government is creating a new kind of life form: a fusion of AI, robotics, and reanimated bodies—creatures that don’t just work but could also form an army that could be used for global control. He fears that humanity itself is being phased out in favor of this hybrid race, designed to follow orders without question or soul. Amid this horror, David is haunted by questions: What is the government really planning? Why do they need these hybrid beings? And most of all, what does this mean for the remaining humans like him? The story is a suspenseful journey as David wrestles with the despair of his situation, the loss of his former life, and the creeping realization that he may be humanity’s last line of defense in a world increasingly controlled by the undead and AI. He faces a dilemma: Will he fight back, or will he be crushed under the weight of this new order? In essence, this book is about survival, loss, government conspiracy, and the erosion of humanity in a world where technology and the undead have collided. It explores themes of control, dehumanization, and resistance in a future where the line between life and death has become disturbingly blurred.
