Book Description
The government and the people of India welcomed us with open arms when we knocked at her door for sanctuary. India not only provided us refuge but also education to our children and helped us to stand on our feet. We have been living in India for the last six decades and in the process have accumulated a large number of debts to the government and people of India for their kind hospitality. If India had not granted us political asylum and wiped our tears, we would not have survived as we are surviving now. Words cannot express how grateful we are to the government and the people of India. India has provided us with all the necessary tools to safeguard our unique language, culture, history, and traditions and keep the spirit of Tibetan nationalism alive. No country has done as much as India has done for us. We rely on India like we rely on the sun. We have reasons to believe that India will stand by us like a rock and never let us down under the pressure of Beijing. We simply adore India. It is this message which we want to convey to the 1.35 billion people of India on the sixtieth year of our exile in India.

Miss Buncle's Book
Author: D.E. Stevenson
Publisher: Sourcebooks, Inc.
ISBN: 1402270836
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 260
Book Description
From beloved English author D.E. Stevenson who has sold more than 7 million books worldwide! In the first heartwarming book of this classic series, D.E. Stevenson proves that one little book can be the source of all kinds of trouble when residents of a small English village start to see themselves through someone else's eyes. Barbara Buncle is in a bind. Times are harsh, and Barbara's bank account has seen better days. Maybe she could sell a novel ... if she knew any stories. Stumped for ideas, Barbara draws inspiration from her fellow residents of Silverstream, the little English village she knows inside and out. To her surprise, the novel is a smash. It's a good thing she wrote under a pseudonym, because the folks of Silverstream are in an uproar. But what really turns Miss Buncle's world around is this: what happens to the characters in her book starts happening to their real-life counterparts. Does life really imitate art, and can she harness that power for good? With the wit and charm of a Jane Austen novel and the gossipy, small-town delight of the Flavia de Luce series, Miss Buncle's Book is D.E. Stevenson at her best!

Book Description
It was a special treat for the passengers to remove themselves from the coach and stretch their legs. Mr. Riddle greeted each of them in spite of the late hour. He gave a bear hug and a pat on the back to Marshal Drew to whom he inquired. Hello Jon how is everything at Boggy Depot. I hear you caught up with the Jabo outt and brought in two of the gang to Judge Parker. I was interested in the state of the other three. Rachel was curious and walked to the water bucket setting on the wooden structure that was built over the well. The station as a courtesy to the passengers had just drawn it full from the well. He motioned to her to take the handle of the gourd that had been fashioned into a dipper. Grasping it she plunged into the bucket and drank from the cool depths of the well. She dipped a second time partly to enable her to hear what Marshall Drews answer was to his question. I had rather been able to bring in the whole lot but it didnt work out that way. I had Choctaw light-horse Captain Josiah Legend to accompany me to the hideout I had located and a shoot-out occurred. They were holed up in a cave with a cow hide covering the entrance. With our repeating ries we separated ourselves and pinned them down in crossre. Light Horse Lieutenant Chockie Billy came later to help us and it was a very short time when they made a break for it. We fatally wounded all but the two I brought in. They knew it was over and threw up their hands to give up. The gun ght itself was short but the tracking is what took so long. A person could get lost in those winding Stair Mountains and never be seen again. I started down In Texas and got some leads and it was a matter of tracking their movements and that is about all of it. You did the Territory a favor in breaking up that gang of thieves and murderers. Those bad men in north Texas come over the Big Red and hide out and we have to deal with them.

Doctor Margaret's Sea Chest
Author: Waheed Rabbani
Publisher: Waheed Rabbani
ISBN: 184923177X
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 433
Book Description
From the Book’s back Cover Doctor Margaret’s Sea Chest, is Book I of a trilogy of historical fiction set during India’s struggle for freedom—Azadi—from the British Raj. The Books weave a tale of international intrigue, conflict, and poignant love between interesting characters of that era. In 1965 an over 100-year-old sea chest, believed to be that of an American doctor, Margaret, is discovered in the storage room of a hospital in Delhi. Another American doctor, Sharif, who originally hails from Delhi and is on contract at the hospital, is entrusted with the task of locating the mysterious woman’s relatives and returning her trunk. Sharif tracks down Margaret’s descendants in Grimsby, Ontario, Canada. Her diaries, and other artefacts—such as the Kingdom of Jhansi’s crown—are found in the coffer. Margaret, born in New Jersey to a Scottish Presbyterian clerical family, overcomes tremendous obstacles and achieves her heart’s desire, in 1850, to become one of the first North American women doctors. She marries her Canadian cousin, Robert, and travels with him to serve in the Crimean war of 1854. In Crimea, they have to not only face hardships of battles, but also endure other conflicts. From events leading to and after the infamous Charge of the Light Brigade, Margaret meets a Russian officer, Count Nicholai. The surprise ending of Book I, leaves Margaret in a quandary, whether to seek vengeance or to continue on with her journey to India. In the end, she believes she has made the right decision. ******************************************** ******************************************** “[Waheed’s] take on the Indian Mutiny from an Indian point of view is fascinating to the Western reader and should be well received…” – Ian Walker, author of LOCA

One Face In A Million
Author: William K. Bond
Publisher: Fulton Books, Inc.
ISBN: 1637105177
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 368
Book Description
One Face in a Million is an entirely fictional story evolved over many years. The author began thinking about writing a story after he visited southern Africa in 1967, where his wife had been born and raised and was often called Mu Shangaaniana when she was young. He began to formulate a story about a young gal who had been raised on a mission station in Mozambique. She was anxious to leave Africa for America to have a more interesting life. A plot formed in his my mind, and he envisioned a striking gal having a life that was quite amazing. She would travel and fall in love, meet notable people, and experience a lot of success. Would that prove to be satisfying for her? During the years that followed, William was privileged to travel to many places throughout the world, so his story evolved in a way that readers could share in some of his traveling experiences. His protagonist had to decide what was really important in her life. Her story takes place across the span of a few decades; therefore, the story eventually developed into a series of five books, which should be considered as one. Because the title is One Face in a Million, William knew her appearance would be of real interest. He looked at images of several notable actresses of the past, but the one that he preferred was of Merle Oberon. Perhaps it would be just as well for any reader to formulate their own ideas of what his characters would look like. Although this is a fictitious story, he hopes that it entertains those who choose to read it.
