Book Description
This book is designed for water-cooled Volkswagen enthusiasts. My main goal is to spread my love for the Volkswagen hobby to anyone that wants to learn. For me, it's been a lifetime love affair and I am lucky to say that I have turned what I love doing into a career, and it's awesome. I hope this book will help you to participate in a hobby that has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my life. I've also been lucky to surround myself with family and friends who love VWs too. I've learned invaluable skills. I get to shape and create things with my hands and feel proud when someone else recognizes my hard work. I get to go to several car shows a year and display my car (the culmination of my hard work), but I also get to create some of my favorite memories with some of the best people. The book is written roughly as a blueprint that I could have handed to 14 year old me to prevent a lot of the mistakes I made (or that others I know made) along the way. I hope any Volkswagen enthusiast will be able to take something of value away from reading this, but it's primarily directed at newcomers. If you are a brand new or relatively new Volkswagen enthusiast, my goal is to inform and educate you as much as possible so that you can get where you want to go as quickly as possible. Also, I want to arm you with knowledge that will hopefully help to minimize destruction (to your car, your budget or yourself). I want you to be able to enjoy your car and the VW community (and maybe become obsessed - it happens a lot) without wrecking your finances, personal relationships or putting yourself in harm's way. With all of that said, thanks again for reading and I hope you enjoy it.

Book Description
At the Berlin Auto Show in 1938, Adolf Hitler presented the prototype for a small, oddly shaped, inexpensive family car that all good Aryans could enjoy. Decades later, that automobile—the Volkswagen Beetle—was one of the most beloved in the world. Bernhard Rieger examines culture and technology, politics and economics, and industrial design and advertising genius to reveal how a car commissioned by Hitler and designed by Ferdinand Porsche became an exceptional global commodity on a par with Coca-Cola. Beyond its quality and low cost, the Beetle’s success hinged on its uncanny ability to capture the imaginations of people across nations and cultures. In West Germany, it came to stand for the postwar “economic miracle” and helped propel Europe into the age of mass motorization. In the United States, it was embraced in the suburbs, and then prized by the hippie counterculture as an antidote to suburban conformity. As its popularity waned in the First World, the Beetle crawled across Mexico and Latin America, where it symbolized a sturdy toughness necessary to thrive amid economic instability. Drawing from a wealth of sources in multiple languages, The People’s Car presents an international cast of characters—executives and engineers, journalists and advertisers, assembly line workers and car collectors, and everyday drivers—who made the Beetle into a global icon. The Beetle’s improbable story as a failed prestige project of the Third Reich which became a world-renowned brand illuminates the multiple origins, creative adaptations, and persisting inequalities that characterized twentieth-century globalization.

Book Description
The VW Beetle is one of the best-loved of all classic cars, with many thousands preserved across the world, many in regular use. Over the years countless changes were introduced, together making a mid sixties Beetle, for instance, very different from one built in the mid-50s, or mid-70s, despite the obvious similarities. With the aid of hundreds of full colour photographs this new edition in paperback documents all the Beetle's specification changes and model differences during the classic period 1949-67, making it possible to determine the original specification and fittings of any Beetle from this period.Uses the same format as for the highly successful VW Transporter spec guides. Aimed at early-Beetle owners and enthusiasts. Superbly illustrated with 300 colour photographs. New edition in paperback for 2018.

Book Description
The development of the Volkswagen Beetle was a central achievement in the early history of the Porsche Company. In January 1934, Ferdinand Porsche wrote an exposé regarding the construction of a German people's car that would have a lasting effect on automotive history. The inexpensive compact automobile would become the symbol and icon of mass motorisation. The Volkswagen, also lovingly known as the VW Beetle, was one of the most popular automobiles in the world. And it was also a leader in terms of production duration and quantity. It was first discontinued in July 2003 when the last Volkswagen left the assembly line in Mexico. With 21.5 million cars, the VW Beetle is by far one of the most-built automobiles in the world. This book is a comprehensive documentation of the history of the VW Beetle's development, containing largely unpublished pictorial and documentary material from the holdings of the Porsche archive. Published as part of the collectible series of books in the Edition Porsche Museum. English and German text.
