Periodically in the Northeast, production and consumption of a single timber product are surveyed by the Northeastern Forest Experiment Station to determine the product's importance in relation to the entire timber-products industry in the region. The manufacture of veneer ranks third in the region, as measured by annual receipts of industrial timber products, such as sawlogs, pulpwood, veneer logs, and other roundwood. Veneer-industry surveys have taken place every R years since 1963 to assess veneer log and bolt harvest and use.
