A case study of an intern's personal experience of bringing positive affirmations with positive art therapy to a client. The art therapy brought to the client was in the form of multiple directives: some commonly facilitated by art therapists and some as a creation of the client's needs. The client, who had a history of substance abuse, and was seeking treatment to maintain sobriety. Throughout the case study, the intern saw a connection between negative thoughts and maladaptive behavior within the client. Connected through research, the intern thought the implementation of positive affirmations with art therapy would promote treatment goals and abstinence from addictive substances. The client began treatment with a high risk of relapse and a low self-esteem. Intern worked with the client from December 2017 to April 2018. The intern hoped to facilitate treatment that would positively impact the client's negative thoughts and their ability to maintain sobriety with art therapy, combined with positive affirmations.
