George W. Bush’s service in the Texas Air National Guard was a contentious issue in three of his election campaigns: Governor of Texas - 1994, President of the United States - 2000, 2004. This monograph for historians explains the arcane, armed forces reserve system during the time of Bush’s military service (1968-1974) and presents a history of such service. Bush’s military biography is based primarily on source documents released by the White House in 2003 and 2004, plus those obtained by researchers through Freedom of Information Act requests.
