As one of the first successful Latin crossover artists, Jon Secada dominated the pop music charts in the early 90s, releasing hits such as Just Another Day and Angel and winning multiple Grammy Awards. As a Cuban refuge, Jon understands that life is about starting anew and embracing opportunities, something he never lost sight of while achieving his dream of being a performer and while building new dreams when life took unexpected turns. In his debut book, Jon shares the lessons he learned that made him the resilient person he is today. His moving message reaffirms that wisdom and strength comes from constantly reinventing yourself and finding what you’re made of through doubt and hardships, growing from adversity, and having faith in A New Day.

Book Description
This study addresses the relation of people to divine beings in contemporary and historical communities, as exemplified in three strands. One is a long tradition of visions of mysterious wayfarers in rural Spain who bring otherworldly news and help, including recent examples. Another treats the seeming vivification of religious images—statues, paintings, engravings, and photographs apparently exuding blood, sweat and tears in Spanish homes and churches in the early modern period and the revival of the phenomenon throughout Europe in the twentieth century. Of special interest is the third strand of the book: the transposition of medieval and early modern representations of the relations between humans and the divine into the modern art of photography. Christian presents a pictorial examination of the phenomenon with a large number of religious images, commercial postcards and family photographs from the first half of past century Europe.

Book Description
This book is a collection of poetry and prose that explores the unique relationship between people and the places they inhabit in the San Diego-Tijuana metropolitan area. Although the act of physically crossing the border is ever present, the San Ysidro Port of Entry is after all the most crossed border in the world, many other aspects compose the lives of border-dwellers. While food, music, and architecture mix the concrete world, language, mythology, and culture mix in the psyche and the soul of those who cross the line. This is a book which resides on the fence, split, yet more complete because it works to unify where others work diligently to divide.

Book Description
The Quiche state in Guatemala flourished for several centuries before being destroyed by the conquistadors in 1524. During the early years of the ensuing period, the Quicheans recorded their past history and legends, writing in their own language but using the Latin alphabet. Many of these chronicles have survived, each illuminating various aspects of pre-conquest Quichean culture. Organized in six sections, Quichean Civilization categorizes all the documented sources describing the Quiche Maya. I. Introduction II. Native Documents III. Primary Spanish Documents IV. Secondary Sources V. Modern Anthropological Sources VI. A Case Study: Título C'oyoi This title is part of UC Press's Voices Revived program, which commemorates University of California Press’s mission to seek out and cultivate the brightest minds and give them voice, reach, and impact. Book Description
