It is 1931 in Texas County, Missouri, and the dust storms are just beginning. With the Great Depression looming in the near future, Earl Sigler is in pursuit of Eva the love of his life, the girl of his dreams, and the only woman who ever forbid him to kiss her on the first date. But only time will tell if Earl's misspent youth and earlier marriage of convenience will place his quest for Eva's affections in jeopardy. When the sudden violent deaths of his father and stepmother leave him a surrogate father to his half-siblings, Earl begins to feel inadequate. Haunted by gruesome visions of the deaths and overcome with the responsibility of being the sole breadwinner for the family, he turns to alcohol as a means of escape. But his challenges are just beginning as Eva's parents express their displeasure with their relationship. Suddenly estranged from the love of his life, Earl cannot help but wonder if God is punishing him. Tyrone Dust is a compelling tale that twists and turns through a time in history when life was difficult, Christian values were abundant, and when one man never stopped believing in the power of love.

Book Description
Tyrone Dust is a story about a romance that is set in and around a tragic event in the small hamlet of Tyrone, Texas County, Missouri. The story begins on a fateful Independence Day of 1931. This event, the death of Earl's father and a second wife leaves Earl in charge of the family, three much younger siblings, a grandmother and an aunt and uncle (in a lesser sense, who are really tenants of the estate of Earl's grandfather and father). Earl has been in hard pursuit of the -love of his life-, Eva. Earl has been groomed into the operation of the family business of farming/ranching, furniture movers and sales, and livestock trading. Eva's parents discover Earl's misspent youth and become hard and fast against the relationship their daughter. The nightmares of the gruesome death of his father, the daytime visions of that day, his feelings of inadequacy in his new found role as family leader, lead to a dependency on moonshine to assuage these feelings poison his everyday performance and his pursuit of the woman he loves. The story revolves around an ancient trail, track, called the West Plains to Rolla Road, that has been a conduit for commerce and cattle drives, from north central Arkansas, from the mid 1800s into the 1930s when more modern roads supplanted it. The book could be subtitled A Saga of the West Plains to Rolla Road.

Book Description
Famous for his electrifying poetry readings, Paul Durcan marks four decades of composing silently and reciting aloud with this magnificent collection, which brings together for the first time the critically acclaimed poet's own choice of his work from his first book, Endsville (1967), to The Laughter of Mothers (2007). Life is a Dream represents the whole range of Durcan's writing - funny and subversive verse narratives and self-mocking poems of underachievement; poems celebrating love and sex or the lives of famous writers and artists; as well as tender, poignant verses commemorating the dead. Throughout his long career, Durcan has continued to make passionate and moving poetry out of his own and his country's misfortunes. He is by turns a surrealist, a mystic, an Irish comedian with perfect comic timing and an angry champion of the oppressed. Life is a Dream reaffirms the constant vision and artistic integrity of one of the most powerful, humane and original voices in modern poetry.
