Book Description
FM 5-36 Route Reconnaissance and Classification 1965-05-14"This manual describes the influence of the operational environment in reconnaissance operations, the intelligence aspects and fundamentals of route reconnaissance, and methods of reconnoitering and classifying routes for military use. Emphasis is placed on natural and manmade characteristics of routes which influence traffic flow. The interruption of movement by enemy action, an equally important consideration in route reconnaissance, is discussed in general terms only; specific details are not within the scope of this manual although thoroughly discussed in field manuals appropriate to the mission and organization of the reconnoitering force (see app. I).Route reconnaissance as presented by this manual is divided into two categories: hasty reconnaissance and deliberate reconnaissance. Hasty reconnaissance provides limited route information necessary for planning and executing normal military movement and is a prerequisite of tactical maneuver.

Book Description
Over 5,300 total pages .... MARINE RECON Reconnaissance units are the commander’s eyes and ears on the battlefield. They are task organized as a highly trained six man team capable of conducting specific missions behind enemy lines. Employed as part of the Marine Air- Ground Task Force, reconnaissance teams provide timely information to the supported commander to shape and influence the battlefield. The varying types of missions a Reconnaissance team conduct depends on how deep in the battle space they are operating. Division Reconnaissance units support the close and distant battlespace, while Force Reconnaissance units conduct deep reconnaissance in support of a landing force. Common missions include, but are not limited to: Plan, coordinate, and conduct amphibious-ground reconnaissance and surveillance to observe, identify, and report enemy activity, and collect other information of military significance. Conduct specialized surveying to include: underwater reconnaissance and/or demolitions, beach permeability and topography, routes, bridges, structures, urban/rural areas, helicopter landing zones (LZ), parachute drop zones (DZ), aircraft forward operating sites, and mechanized reconnaissance missions. When properly task organized with other forces, equipment or personnel, assist in specialized engineer, radio, and other special reconnaissance missions. Infiltrate mission areas by necessary means to include: surface, subsurface and airborne operations. Conduct Initial Terminal Guidance (ITG) for helicopters, landing craft, parachutists, air-delivery, and re-supply. Designate and engage selected targets with organic weapons and force fires to support battlespace shaping. This includes designation and terminal guidance of precision-guided munitions. Conduct post-strike reconnaissance to determine and report battle damage assessment on a specified target or area. Conduct limited scale raids and ambushes. Book Description
The book describes the details about the tunnel construction, that includes, history, shape and sizes, various conventional methods, techniques, planning, designing and methodology of construction in Indian context. The geological investigation for the selection of most economical, and technically viable, alignment for transportation. Further book highlights the necessity of safety for men, material and machinery, during construction. The Geo technical investigation reports are prepared, Rock is classified in five classes like good rock, poor, fair, poor and very poor, according to the strength and characteristics of the rock the conclusion and recommendation are followed while designing the tunnel with adequately safe and sound tunnel support system. ‘The book emphasises on engaging skilled, experienced and trained workmen, plant and equipment in good service condition, which is very important for the completion within stipulated time and cost. The principle of reduce, reuse and recycle is applied in all possible construction activities to minimise the risk to the environment. For ensuring this, the temporary and permanent support system are designed to provide adequate support for the excavated tunnel profile. The Geo technical instrumentation is also provided to continuously monitoring the profile, foresee the behaviour of Rock mass, so that preventive steps are taken in time to mitigate the threats posed by fractured rock mass or poor rock. Finally, it illustrates the various detailed activities and sequences involved at macro level and micro level, for the construction of a tunnel.

Book Description
This open access book compiles the research results of the Collaborative Research Center SFB 837, which has been running since 2010 and will end in 2022, with the topic "Interaction Modeling in Mechanized Tunneling". The Collaborative Research Center is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and is currently the world's largest research facility in the field of tunneling. The aim of the publication is to make our scientific findings accessible to the international professional community. The individual chapters deal with all subsystems relevant in mechanized tunneling and their interaction. The latest results of digital planning and real-time tunneling support have been included.

Book Description
Tunnels and Underground Cities: Engineering and Innovation meet Archaeology, Architecture and Art contains the contributions presented at the World Tunnel Congress 2019 (Naples, Italy, 3-9 May 2019). The use of underground space is continuing to grow, due to global urbanization, public demand for efficient transportation, and energy saving, production and distribution. The growing need for space at ground level, along with its continuous value increase and the challenges of energy saving and achieving sustainable development objectives, demand greater and better use of the underground space to ensure that it supports sustainable, resilient and more liveable cities. This vision was the source of inspiration for the design of the logos of both the International (ITA) and Italian (SIG) Tunnelling Association. By placing key infrastructures underground – the black circle in the logos – it will be possible to preserve and enhance the quality of the space at ground level – the green line. In order to consider and value underground space usage together with human and social needs, engineers, architects, and artists will have to learn to collaborate and develop an interdisciplinary design approach that addresses functionality, safety, aesthetics and quality of life, and adaptability to future and varied functions. The 700 contributions cover a wide range of topics, from more traditional subjects connected to technical challenges of design and construction of underground works, with emphasis on innovation in tunneling engineering, to less conventional and archetypically Italian themes such as archaeology, architecture, and art. The book has the following main themes: Archaeology, Architecture and Art in underground construction; Environment sustainability in underground construction; Geological and geotechnical knowledge and requirements for project implementation; Ground improvement in underground constructions; Innovation in underground engineering, materials and equipment; Long and deep tunnels; Public communication and awareness; Risk management, contracts and financial aspects; Safety in underground construction; Strategic use of underground space for resilient cities; Urban tunnels. Tunnels and Underground Cities: Engineering and Innovation meet Archaeology, Architecture and Art is a valuable reference text for tunneling specialists, owners, engineers, architects and others involved in underground planning, design and building around the world, and for academics who are interested in underground constructions and geotechnics.
