The highly fossiliferous upper Darriwilian to lower Sandbian Elnes Formation of Norway presents an interesting insight into the general responses and preferences of Lower Palaeozoic faunas belonging to a stable, mud dominated middle to outer shelf environment in connection with a major transgressive to regressive system tract. The rich trilobite fauna consisting of nearly 100 taxa is closely linked to the changes in the environment, being most abundant in a muddy and siliciclastic dominated environment just above storm wave base. The fauna is highly endemic for the region and the remainder of Baltoscania. This monograph presents a taxonomic description of the total trilobite fauna, including a new genus and seven hitherto unknown species. New and extensive biostratigraphical data is presented on the trilobites together with a study on the biogeographical and ecological aspects of the faunas.

The trilobites from the Upper Cambrian to Lower Ordovician Survey Peak, Outram and Skoki formations at Wilcox Pass, Alberta, comprehensively described in this report, belong to 48 genera. One new genus and six new species are described, and type material for seventeen previously described species from corresponding strata elsewhere in the Rockies is redescribed or re-illustrated. This report establishes a biostratigraphic framework for the Wilcox Pass sequence, from the highest part of the Upper Cambrian Trempealeau Series through the entire Lower Ordovician, based on trilobite zones.

Forty-five species of lower Middle Ordovician trilobites, including six new genera and thirty new species, are described and illustrated from the extensive collections in the United States National Museum. Most of these species occur in beds whose age and correlation have been a matter of controversy for more than a decade. The stratigraphic evidence afforded by the trilobites lends strong support to regional stratigraphic interpretations of the lower Champlainian beds in the Appalachian Valley, which have been worked out by G. Arthur Cooper and the writer fromdetailed study of brachiopod faunas and from physical stratigraphic studies. The trilobites, like brachiopods, are not so restricted in their facies distribution as are many groups of invertebrate fossils. Hence they are very useful in establishing contemporaneity of dissimilar facies. In this paper only the more common trilobites are described. The principal purpose of this study is to make available for biostratigraphic use a number of trilobite species, most of which have been confused or misidentified previously.
