Le Modèle Atmosphérique Régional (MAR, Dx=40 km) est mis en œuvre sur l'Afrique de l'Ouest pour souligner la sensibilité du régime pluviométrique et de la dynamique simulée à la température de surface océanique du Golf de Guinée durant l'année sèche 1984. Cette influence est très marquée au sud de 12°N. Au-delà, il semble que les précipitations soient plus influencées par les interactions avec la surface continentale et les structures synoptiques. La zone Sahélienne apparaît donc pertinente pour étudier le couplage entre la surface continentale et l'atmosphère. Ainsi, une architecture originale fondée sur l'utilisation des codes patrimoines permettant modularité, portabilité, extensibilité et intenopérabilité a été développée et utilisée en premier lieu en mode forcé de l'atmosphère vers le bassin versant de la Sirba (39000 km2) modélisé par le modèle hydrologique ABC (Dx environ 1.8 km). Un algorithme de désagrégation des pluies convectives basé sur la prise en compte de plusieurs maximums convectifs pour un même évènement a ainsi été testé avec succès. La prépondérance de la sensibilité de l'échantillonnage temporel sur le spatial est ainsi soulignée. Enfin, une expérience de couplage entre les modèles MAR et ABC interfacés à l'aide de modèles SVAT (Surface Vegetation Atmosphere Transfer) est réalisée sur le bassin de la Sirba. La haute résolution du SVAT sur la Sirba entraîne alors des modifications dans le traitement des flux, de la température de surface, et dans le bilan en eau. La partie hydrologique montre, pour sa part, sa capacité à moduler les variations apportées par le SVAT haute résolution en modifiant le bilan en eau et par là même l'albedo et le bilan d'énergie.

It is estimated that literally billions of residents in urban and peri-urban areas of Africa, Asia, and Latin America are served by onsite sanitation systems (e.g. various types of latrines and septic tanks). Until recently, the management of faecal sludge from these onsite systems has been grossly neglected, partially as a result of them being considered temporary solutions until sewer-based systems could be implemented. However, the perception of onsite or decentralized sanitation technologies for urban areas is gradually changing, and is increasingly being considered as long-term, sustainable options in urban areas, especially in low- and middle-income countries that lack sewer infrastructures.
