Book Description
The orthogonality of functions has been exploited in communications since its very beginning. Conscious and 1 extensive use was made of it by KOTEL NIKOV in theoretical work in 1947. Ten years later a considerable number of people were working in this field rather independently. However, little experimental use could be made of the theo retical results before the arrival of solid state opera tional amplifiers and integrated circuits. A theory of communication based on orthogonal functions could ·have been published many years ago. However, the only useful examples of orthogonal functions at that time were sine .... cosine functions and block pulses, and this made the theory appear to be a complicated way to derive known re sults. It was again the advance of semiconductor techno logy that produced the first really new, useful example of orthogonal functions: the little-known Walsh functions. In this book emphasis is placed on the Walsh functions, since ample literature is available on sine-cosine func tions as well as on block pulses and pulses derived from them.

Dyadic Walsh Analysis from 1924 Onwards Walsh-Gibbs-Butzer Dyadic Differentiation in Science Volume 1 Foundations
Author: Radomir Stankovic
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9462391602
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 474
Book Description
Dyadic (Walsh) analysis emerged as a new research area in applied mathematics and engineering in early seventies within attempts to provide answers to demands from practice related to application of spectral analysis of different classes of signals, including audio, video, sonar, and radar signals. In the meantime, it evolved in a mature mathematical discipline with fundamental results and important features providing basis for various applications. The book will provide fundamentals of the area through reprinting carefully selected earlier publications followed by overview of recent results concerning particular subjects in the area written by experts, most of them being founders of the field, and some of their followers. In this way, this first volume of the two volume book offers a rather complete coverage of the development of dyadic Walsh analysis, and provides a deep insight into its mathematical foundations necessary for consideration of generalizations and applications that are the subject of the second volume. The presented theory is quite sufficient to be a basis for further research in the subject area as well as to be applied in solving certain new problems or improving existing solutions for tasks in the areas which motivated development of the dyadic analysis.

Power Electronic Systems
Author: Anish Deb
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 135183133X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 302
Book Description
A Totally Different Outlook on Power Electronic System Analysis Power Electronic Systems: Walsh Analysis with MATLAB® builds a case for Walsh analysis as a powerful tool in the study of power electronic systems. It considers the application of Walsh functions in analyzing power electronic systems, and the advantages offered by Walsh domain analysis of power electronic systems. Solves Power Electronic Systems in an Unconventional Way This book successfully integrates power electronics as well as systems and control. Incorporating a complete orthonormal function set very much unlike the sine–cosine functions, it introduces a blending between piecewise constant orthogonal functions and power electronic systems. It explores the background and evolution of power electronics, and discusses Walsh and related orthogonal basis functions. It develops the mathematical foundation of Walsh analysis, and first- and second-order system analyses by Walsh technique. It also describes the Walsh domain operational method and how it is applied to linear system analysis. Introduces Theories Step by Step While presenting the underlying principles of Walsh analysis, the authors incorporate many illustrative examples, and include a basic introduction to linear algebra and MATLAB® programs. They also examine different orthogonal piecewise constant basis functions like Haar, Walsh, slant, block pulse functions, and other related orthogonal functions along with their time scale evolution. • Analyzes pulse–fed single input single output (SISO) first- and second-order systems • Considers stepwise and continuously pulse width modulated chopper systems • Describes a detailed analysis of controlled rectifier circuits • Addresses inverter circuits Power Electronic Systems: Walsh Analysis with MATLAB® is written for postgraduate students, researchers, and academicians in the area of power electronics as well as systems and control.

Duration and Bandwidth Limiting
Author: Jeffrey A. Hogan
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0817683070
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 273
Book Description
Increasingly important in the field of communications, the study of time and band limiting is crucial for the modeling and analysis of multiband signals. This concise but comprehensive monograph is the first to be devoted specifically to this subdiscipline, providing a thorough investigation of its theory and applications. Through cutting-edge numerical methods, it develops the tools for applications not only to communications engineering, but also to optical engineering, geosciences, planetary sciences, and biomedicine. With broad coverage and a careful balance between rigor and readability, Duration and Bandwidth Limiting is a particularly original and valuable resource both for mathematicians interested in the field and for professional engineers with an interest in theory. While its main target audience is practicing scientists, the book may also serve as useful supplemental reading material for mathematically-based graduate courses in communications and signal processing.
