A Nation Too Good to Lose
Author: Joe Clark
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 264
Book Description
"We’ve all heard the news report. In fact, we’ve heard them for most of the past thirty years. Alarmingly and inexorably, the unthinkable has become a very real prospect. The nation that is Canada as we know it may not make it into the next decade. And we think that we no longer care. That, perhaps, it’s for the best. Or, at the very least, that there will be an end to this ceaseless wrangling and we can get on with our lives. This is a dangerous course. For what we wish for might just happen. In A Nation Too Good To Lose, former prime minister and senior statesman the Right Honourable Joe Clark argues eloquently and passionately that we are deluding ourselves if we think that the breakup of Canada will not have severe consequences for us all. The economy will be devastated. We will be marginalized and lose both our competitive edge and our standing on the world stage. We will not escape more constitutional negotiations, for how will we structure a Canada without Quebec? Mr. Clark contends that underlying the politics of frustration, there is, in fact, a widespread consensus among Canadians on what Canada should be and how a new kind of federalism could be shaped. And he warmly shares his personal experiences and views that have led him to this conclusion and to the fact that Canada can still be saved."--Page 4 of cover.

China’s Ambassadors of Christ to the Nations
Author: Tabor Laughlin
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 172525798X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 146
Book Description
Maybe you are familiar with the growth in recent decades of "majority world" missionaries being sent all over the world from non-Western countries (i.e., countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Middle East). This book focuses on missionaries sent from one non-Western country, analyzing the experiences of Chinese missionaries on the mission field. The missionaries interviewed were sent from house churches in mainland China, have served overseas for at least two years, and are ministering cross-culturally to non-Chinese on the mission field. The first research question relates to Chinese missionaries' successes and difficulties in cross-culturally building relationships with locals, learning the local language, and adjusting to the local culture. The second research question analyzes factors that have contributed to the Chinese missionaries remaining on the mission field. This included how pre-field preparation and on-field support contributed to their retention. Also analyzed were other challenges and needs the missionaries had on the field. The interviewees were serving in countries in Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

Leave a Legacy
Author: J. Russell Turney
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1498294812
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 123
Book Description
In this second volume of the new APTS Press Monograph Series, Dr. Russ Turney presents a compelling case study of why some missionaries leave the field far too soon. Normal attrition occurs because of health problems, retirement, or the obvious call of God to go elsewhere. However, Turney notes that far too often missionaries leave due to interpersonal conflicts with their colleagues or nationals, problems with authority and other issues that, Turney contends, could be significantly reduced. He then presents an excellent strategy for dealing with these and other issues, enabling missionaries to continue in their calling long term and finish well. This strategy will help equip not only missionaries and mission leaders from both the West and the Majority World, but also pastors and church members who love and support missionaries and who want to learn how to strengthen them better through prayer and action. Anyone who shares the warm hearted conviction that missionaries can and should leave a legacy will benefit from this book. From the Foreword. . .
