Automotive Tire Noise and Vibrations
Author: Xu Wang
Publisher: Butterworth-Heinemann
ISBN: 0128184094
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 398
Book Description
Automotive Tire Noise and Vibrations: Analysis, Measurement and Simulation presents the latest generation mechanisms of tire/road noise. The book focuses not only on tire/road noise issues from the tire/road structures, materials and dynamics, but also from a whole vehicle system. The analyses cover finite element modeling, mathematical simulations and experimental tests, including works done to mitigate noise. This book provides a summary of tire noise and vibration research, with a focus on new simulation and measurement techniques. Covers new measurements techniques and simulation strategies that are critical in accurately assessing tire noise and vibration Provides recent simulation progress and findings of CAE on analysis of generation mechanisms of the tire/road noise Features a Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) and model of a multilayer trim to enhance the sound absorption of tire/road noise

Investigation of Air-borne Noise Generation Mechanisms in Tire Noise
Author: Prashanta Gautam
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Computational fluid dynamics
Languages : en
Pages : 154
Book Description
The complex nature of tire/road noise generation process makes it difficult to isolate and study individual mechanisms. In this thesis, a new computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tire noise prediction model is used to predict the air-borne tire noise. The different factors needed to be considered in the development of the CFD model, such as vehicle speed, deformation and load, have been discussed in detail through various analysis stages. Experimentally, the noise data is collected and studied for a tire with hand-cut slots. Air-borne noise is isolated by filling the slots with foam and different approaches are used to investigate the experimental data and reach a conclusion regarding the different air-borne noise frequencies that exist in the data. A direct comparison between the experimental and computational results is made, in terms of temporal and spectral characteristics. The comparison shows that the computational model is capable of predicting the frequencies responsible for noise generation mechanisms such as air-pumping, pipe resonance as well as Helmholtz resonance. Further analysis of the numerical results also aim to provide some explanation on the origin of the air-borne noise in the tire studied. While providing a deeper understanding of the causes of air-borne noise in tires, this thesis also aims to demonstrate that CFD can be used to predict tire noise effectively, through the proposed model.
