Book Description
When at age fifty Ali Khamenei, a middle-ranking cleric, was named Ayatollah Khomeini's successor as the Islamic Republic's Supreme Leader, he lacked not only his forerunner's charisma but his religious and political credentials as well. Gradually, however, over nearly two and a half decades, Khamenei has accumulated formidable centralized authority, aided by transformation of the IRGC's role in overseeing the country's politics and economy. He now enjoys the final say on many issues, especially when it comes to foreign policy and the nuclear issue. Ironically, a leader once seen as an inadequate successor to Khomeini may now have accumulated more power than the first Supreme Leader, at least in some areas. This new study by Mehdi Khalaji focuses on explaining the decisionmaking process within Iran's highest political echelon. Setting aside the notion of the Supreme Leader as omnipotent, certain realities and actors can affect his mindset and decisions, but until now, few studies have examined these contingencies with regard to either Khamenei or Khomeini. Practically speaking, a better understanding of the subtleties that drive the Supreme Leader's actions and behavior can help U.S. and other leaders craft a more effective approach to the regime, particularly in light of its emerging nuclear capability.

Book Description
In Outraged, an auto insider provides an inspiring account of what it means to lose your rights, property, and, in essence, the American dream. It begins with roughly two thousand men and women whose companies were destroyed by two automakers, General Motors and Chrysler, during their government-led corporate restructurings in 2009. Authors Tamara Darvish, vice president of DARCARS Automotive in Maryland, and Lillie Guyer, a Detroit area automotive journalist, show the collapse of the American dream from the perspective of an entrepreneur who was affected by the automotive industry bailout. In this featurized business story, Outraged details the founding of the activist group Committee to Restore Dealer Rights and its efforts to regain the economic rights of auto dealerships throughout the United States. It tells how they took their fight to Congress and to the steps of the White House. Outraged candidly examines the battles between dealers and the entities that engineered their demise. It also details the pain and the high points in government as its temporary power brokers ignore the significant role of Congress in lawmaking and the rights of ordinary citizens. This personal, controversial account shows what can happen when people unite in a common cause and stand up for what they believe is right.

Book Description
The beautiful Queen Ankh schemes for the crown of the frail Tut. Desperate for a viable son, she toys with the infatuated Carver, an inventive apprentice who spins dreams of becoming great beyond words. Intoxicated, he spies on the royal couple, and becomes embroiled in the intrigues of the court. Ankh learns the chariot-driving technique of warrior pharaohs to prove her legitimacy, but she also drugs and even kills people to suit her aims. Carver plays a crucial role when Tut dies in a reckless attempt to bolster his image. The widowed Ankh sees her dreams crash, but Carver finds fresh beauty under her tears. The story is founded in history, includes important but little known characters, and offers notions of ancient erotica. The narrative has subtle humor and much fantasy such as the pretend-precursor to a passage in the Iliad, or Carver breaking into Tut's tomb to suffer the Pharaoh's revenge.

Book Description
In The Art of Touch: Prose and Poetry from the Pandemic and Beyond, the unique voices of thirty-nine of some of the most creative thinkers of our times have been brought together to consider the profound impact of one of our five main senses: touch. Psychologists, healers, massage therapists, academics, creative writers, and others reflect on or tell personal stories about what it means to be able to touch or experience touch, or to have to go without it—as so many did and still do because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They explore how transmissions such as texting may impede opportunities for touch, while those like Zoom may make it possible for people who otherwise might be left behind to stay “in touch.” From the experience of touching beloved animals to the life-changing ways in which books and performances can touch us, virtually all aspects of touch are acknowledged in these pages.
