Book Description
The Diels-Alder reaction has long been a powerful tool in organic synthesis. In recent years, the Alder ene reaction has also achieved some prominence. From the beginning, it was apparent that the intramolecular variants of these reactions would be feasible. Many such have been reported, but the results are widely scattered in the chemical literature. This volume is an attempt to synthesize results observed to date, and to suggest directions for future development. One of the limiting factors in the application of the intramolecular Diels Alder reaction has been the development of methods for the preparation of the requisite trienes. The fIrst chapter of this volume summarizes methods for the preparation of dienes and dienophiles. Examples representative of every general approach to 1,3-dienes and to dienophilic functional group combinations have been included. There are two questions one might ask in considering the prospective cyclization of a given triene: what are the factors that govern the rate of cyclization? and, for cyclizations that lead to the creation of one or more new chiral centers, what are the factors that govern diastereoselectivity? These questions are addressed in Chapter Two. The third chapter is devoted to the all-carbon intramolecular Alder ene reaction. The tables in that chapter summarize all examples that could be found in the literature through 1981, with several additional examples from 1982. Leading references to heterocyclic ene reactions are also included in this chapter.

Book Description
Synthetically useful organic reactions or reagents are often referred to by the name of the discoverer(s) or developer(s). Older name reactions are described in text books, but more recently developed synthetically useful reactions that may have been associated occasionally with a name are not always well known. For neither of the above are experimental procedures or references easy to find. In this monograph approximately 500 name reactions are included, of which over 200 represent newer name reactions and modern reagents. Each of these reactions are extremely useful for the contemporary organic chemistry researcher in industry or academic institutions. This book provides the information in an easily accessible form. In addition to seminal references and reviews, one or more examples for each name reaction are provided and a complete typical experimental procedure is included, to enable the student or researcher to immediately evaluate reaction conditions. Besides an alphabetical listing of reactions and reagents, cross references permit the organic practitioner to find those name reactions or reagents that enable specific transformations, such as, conversion of amines to nitriles, stereoselective reduction, fluoroalkylation, phenol alkynylation, asymmetric syntheses, allylic alkylation, nucleoside synthesis, cyclopentanation, hydrozirconation, to name a few. Emphasis has been placed on stereoselective and regioselective transformations as well as on enantioselective processes. The listing of reactions and reagents is supported by four indexes.

Book Description
A groundbreaking book to offer a a comprehensive account of important reactions involving arynes Modern Aryne Chemistry is the first book on the market to offer a conceptual framework to the reactions related to arynes. It also provides a systematic introduction to the cycloaddition reactions, insertion reactions and transition-metal-catalyzed transformations of arynes. The author, a noted expert on the topic, highlights a novel strategy for carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bond construction using arynes. The book reveiws the recent use of aryne chemistry for the development of new multicomponent reactions. New advances in this area has shown rapid emergence of a new class of reactions classified under rearrangement reactions. The author also includes information on aryne methods that have been employed for the synthesis of several natural products. The simplicity and sophistication of the synthetic strategy using arynes can serve as a springboard for organic chemists to explore new possibilities and imagine applications of the concept of arynes. This important book: Presents a one-of-kind comprehensive guide to arynes reactions Offers a proven approach to the synthesis of natural product and polymers Reviews the most recent developments in the carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bond-forming reactions involving arynes Written for organic, pharmaceutical, medicinal, natural products, and catalytic Chemists, Modern Aryne Chemistry offers a comprehensive review of the fundamentals of reactions related to arynes and the most recent developments in the field.
