Book Description
"This book explores how dramatically the face of terrorism has changed in the last decade. Instead of resisting globalization, terrorist groups have taken full advantage of the widespread availability of communication technologies, inexpensive travel, porous borders, privatization of security, and access to saturated weapons markets to grow rapidly in strength, size, and reach. Many rag-tag groups have since evolved into sophisticated organizations. In addition to accumulating political influence and economic resources, they have also learnt to use efficient tactics and techniques from both the East and West." "The various contributions to this book from specialized analysts and field operatives will provide the reader with greater insight into terrorist intentions and capabilities, their tactics, the technologies they use, and potential opportunities for attack, thereby outlining the evolving threat of terrorism."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Description
The Visage is the first book in Sereena Nightshade's series describing the long-term domestic terrorism she experienced as a stalking victim 1999-2004. This series includes the following books in this presented order: 1) The Visage or House of Sorrows. 2)Sweetie-Baby. 3) Black Market. This material is a powerhouse mixed/medley book of poetry, prose and essays written by Sereena Nightshade. The medley mixture was created purposely to provide readers with intermissions or brief reading escapes from the actual horrors that inspired the creation of much of the material within its pages . The Visage, Sweetie-Baby and Black Market are highly recommended for both stalking victims and support sources for these victims. The Visage and Sweetie-Baby contain information, tips for victims and others as well as a list of potential resources for victims (i.e. at the back of each book). Material existing during the time The Visage was originally released yet suppressed is offered in both Sweetie-Baby and Black Market, which when read together or consecutively present as the ideal explanatory conclusion of all that was hidden from view due to safety and security reasons in The Visage. The Visage is truly the lead-in story of what occurred told at the moment when the events were unfolding with all the raw imperfections of an actual victim inside of the trenches. The Visage is complete with a good portion of the impact mixed with actual information that can assist others while Sweetie-Baby and Black Market are the double plus fisted sucker punches of reality; finally exposing how much Nightshade tried to fight the predator, cope and escape if possible and still the end came to what can only be seen as sheer inhumane injustice. This material is offered in hopes that others will learn from the mistakes and the in-person in-the-trenches-training of Sereena Nightshade as well as the gross errors of others who could have made a difference, yet chose not to for reasons clearly noted, proven senseless and disgusting. The three books in this series, The Visage, Sweetie-Baby and Black Market, are truly a veritable treasure trove of immeasurable insight, knowledge and wisdom for other victims and their friends/family members a like. Names of individuals in all of this author´s books are fictitious names. Real names are not revealed. Review by Dominic. Sereena Nightshade Trivia: 1) Favorite musician: Sixto Rodriguez. A) Album sample, Cold Fact.

Book Description
According to the Department of State, in the last 5 years there have been 1,559 international terrorist incidents involving U.S. citizens and property as targets. These incidents include the Beirut Marine barracks bombing. In that period, 312 U.S. citizens have been killed and 212 wounded. In the period 1973 through 1982, the total numbers of international victims of terrorism have been 3,500 killed and 7,600 wounded. Bombing have fluctuated in the 50 to 75 percent ranges as the cause of terrorist acts each year, and more than a third of deaths from terrorist acts have been attributed to bombing. Now, decisionmakers-and not only those who sit at the very top at the National Security Council level, but also those at other levels-have to ask questions: What is terrorism? How do you define it? When does a specific act fit within definitions, and when doesn't it? How does the government protect against that specific kind of act? Furthermore, they must think about the institutions they are dealing with, because they need to know not only how to govern their own troops and run their own agencies, but also how these other pepole, who should be having an interplay with them, approach the subject. My view is that we have basically five institutional perspectives: diplomatic, intelligence, law enforcement, military, and security.

Book Description
ISIS is the branch of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, established in 2004, entered the security vacuum and took advantage of the increasing political-societal Sunni alienation: It became an important actor in the insurgent organizations fighting the American army, became stronger after the withdrawal of the American troops at the end of 2001, and spread to Syria after the civil war began in March 2011. The Islamic State, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), follows a distinctive variety of Islam whose beliefs about the path to the Day of Judgment matter to its strategy, and can help the West know its enemy and predict its behavior. Its rise to power is less like the triumph of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt (a group whose leaders the Islamic State considers apostates) than like the realization of a dystopian alternate reality in which David Koresh or Jim Jones survived to wield absolute power over not just a few hundred people, but some 8 million. The jihadist group Islamic State (IS) burst on to the international scene in 2014 when it seized large swathes of territory in Syria and Iraq. It has become notorious for its brutality, including mass killings, abductions and beheadings. The group though has attracted support elsewhere in the Muslim world - and a US-led coalition has vowed to destroy it.

Book Description
From chants and pamphlets to the Internet, terrorist propaganda can be deadly effective Propaganda used by terrorists and armed groups might not always be the most sophisticated or nuanced form of rhetoric, but with the right mix of emotion and logic it can be extremely effective in motivating supporters and frightening opponents. This book examines how terrorist groups in recent history have used propaganda, and how they had adapted to new communications technologies while retaining useful techniques from the past. Harmon and Bowdish trace how armed groups and terrorists around the globe have honed their messages for maximum impact, both on the communities they hope to persuade to support them and on the official state organs they hope to overthrow. Sometimes both the messages and the techniques are crude; others are highly refined, carefully crafted appeals to intellect or emotion, embracing the latest forms of communications technology. Whatever the ideas or methodology, all are intended to use the power of ideas, along with force, to project an image and to communicate—not merely intimidate. The Terrorist Argument uses nine case studies of how armed groups have used communications techniques with varying degrees of success: radio, newspapers, song, television, books, e-magazines, advertising, the Internet, and social media. It is fascinating reading for anyone interested in civil conflict, terrorism, communications theory and practice, or world affairs in general.
