Book Description
Excerpt from The Sun Dial, Vol. 9: May, 1935 All of us do not have superior intellects; all Of us cannot expect to become famous. However, we can use our intellect whether great or small, to the best advantage by directing it into sane and serious channels of thought whereby we may gain a solution which will lift the world out of its present social, economic, and political chaos. Back of all this there must be a determination, a might, and a power to carry out the above instructions. A strong deter mination is within the reach of each of us and may be strong for good or evil. Which? Our lives are valuable if directed along a well rounded plan, but they may easily become worth less if not carefully guided. We can do with them what our wills determine. May our decisions be wise ones as we face our tasks; may we climb the highroad and thus reflect in our lives the wonderful environment of our college days. Book Description
Excerpt from The Sun Dial, Vol. 3: May 29, 1926 On September 8th our school opened with an enrollment of 100 splendid girls and boys, all ready for work as evidenced by the look on their faces, and this readiness has been kept up all through the year. For the whole student body this has indeed been a happy year. We have worked and played together, and the fine Christian fellowship has meant much to all of us. The spirit of service and helpfulness has been predominant and we have grown closer to each other. As we come to the close of the year, we look back and think of those we selected to guide our Student Body during 1925-26, our Student Body officers. Book Description
Excerpt from The Sun Dial, Vol. 8: May, 1934 As commencement approaches each Of us looks forward to it with feelings mingled with joy, eagerness, and sadness - joy be cause of what we have attained, eagerness because of the holi day activities that await us, and sadness because Of separation from those whom we love. Commencement is one of the most thrilling events of our lives. It is a time in which we must choose a vocation or-our life's work. Up to this time we have been preparing ourselves to face higher and more definite aims. Our school aims were attained by the influence and guidance Of our friends and instructors. Since we will soon be only one amongst the masses, our attainments will be reached only by building upon the foundation that has been laid for us and by living up to the ideals that have been set before us, both Of which are strongly characterized in our school seal, Strength, Beauty, Truth - TO be and not to Seem. As we set out to accomplish our tasks many fascinating but shallow pleasures will ever confront us to draw us toward the downward road. How can we overcome such temptations unless we are strong? We must endeavor to keep our bodies strong and healthy, but above all let us keep strong in mind and will. Let us be strong enough to say no when the crowd accepts, to stand firm when others plunge blindly or heedlessly on, and to step forward when Others shrink. Beauty is a characteristic all of us may have. True beauty is of the soul, but there can also be a genuine physical beauty for usually our inward feelings are revealed through our outward appearances. Beauty is also strongly revealed through unselfish acts. All along the way there are many who are downcast and discouraged. A few words of cheer, and deeds of kindness will do miracles toward beautifying their lives and ours. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
