Book Description
Amphipilic heteroarm star polymers of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and polystyrene (PS) have been investigated in scientific and industrial applications since the PEO[subscript n]-b-PS[subscript m] heteroarm star polymers have a remarkable self-associating characteristic forming a core-shell structure. The well-developed star polymers offer higher degrees of chain end functionality compared to linear polymers in solution and solid-state. Star-shaped PEO and PS polymers were synthesized by sequential anionic polymerization of PEO and ATRP of PS using core-first method. The star polymers were studied at the air-water and air-solid interfaces. PEO1-b-PS2 heteroarm star polymer formed a homogeneous film on the surface and aggregated into well-developed circular domains at higher surface pressures. The monolayer exhibited order to disorder transitions. The structural diversities built up interesting surface morphologies. Increasing of PS chain length constructed a crater like structure with a function of surface pressure. Moreover, the PEO2-b-PS1 star polymer formed aggregation of domains instead of well-ordered circular domains.

Book Description
The term ‘miktoarm polymers’ refers to asymmetric branched macromolecules, a relatively new entry to the macromolecular field. Recent advances in their synthesis and intriguing supramolecular chemistry in a desired medium has seen a fast expansion of their applications. The composition of miktoarm polymers can be tailored and even pre-defined to allow a desired combination of functions, meaning polymer chemists can have complete control of the overall architecture of these macromolecules. By carefully selecting the composition, they can create supramolecular structures with intriguing properties, particularly for applications in biology. Miktoarm Star Polymers features chapters from experts actively working in this field, and provides the reader with a unique introduction to the fundamental principles of this exciting macromolecular system. Topics covered include the design, synthesis, characterization, self-assembly and applications of miktoarm polymers. The book is an excellent overview and up to date guide to those working in research in polymer chemistry, materials science, and polymers for medical applications.

Book Description
The sheer volume of topics which could have been included under our general title prompted us to make some rather arbitrary decisions about content. Modification by irradiation is not included because the activity in this area is being treated elsewhere. We have chosen to emphasize chemical routes to modification and have striven to pre sent as balanced a representation of current activity as time and page count permit. Industrial applications, both real and potential, are included. Where appropriate, we have encouraged the contributors to include review material to help provide the reader with adequate context. The initial chapter is a review from a historical perspective of polymer modification and contains an extensive bibliography. The remainder of the book is divided into four general areas: Reactions and Preparation of Copolymers Reactions and Preparation of Block and Graft Copolymers Modification Through Condensation Reactions Applications The chemical modification of homopolymers such as polyvinylchlo ride, polyethylene, poly(chloroalkylene sulfides), polysulfones, poly chloromethylstyrene, polyisobutylene, polysodium acrylate, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl chloroformate, sulfonated polystyrene; block and graft copolymers such as poly(styrene-block-ethylene-co-butylene block-styrene), poly(I,4-polybutadiene-block ethylene oxide), star chlorine-telechelic polyisobutylene, poly(isobutylene-co-2,3-dimethyl- 1,3-butadiene), poly(styrene-co-N-butylmethacrylate); cellulose, dex tran and inulin, is described.
