Book Description
From the time of the fall of man, when The Creator first annunciated his auspicious plan to remediate the effects of that fatal lapse, the spiritual nemesis of mankind had been at work to unseat the life of God from the soul of man.-Fast-forward several millennia. In 1940, a particularly insightful writer and avowed opponent of that nemesis-one C.S. Lewis-managed to intercept some of the correspondences between one of the Devil's minions-called "Screwtape"-to a junior devil-called "Wormwood." These letters revealed a nefarious plan to tempt and ultimately to destroy just one of the objects of God's saving grace. Spoiler alert-they failed! Now, the Devil and his agents had to start from scratch. Not wishing to be outdone for having failed to snuff out their selected Christian "rat," the Enemy hatched an even grander plan. This time he would go after the "nests," that is the churches! The selected stratagem was to stir up so much dissension and division, that the unifying ligature of God's Church, which is the secret of its power, would be broken down, thereby exposing the rats themselves to error and apostasy. "The Slubgob Letters," named for Lewis' Head of the Tempter's "Training College," contains the correspondences between Slubgob and his trainee "Woodworm," disclosing the details of this new "master-plan" to "eat away" at the structure of the churches, and thus, to destroy both the vermin and their revered institution.-No spoiler alert here. Book Description
"Screwtape Proposes a Toast" by C.S. Lewis is a satirical and thought-provoking work that serves as an addendum to Lewis's earlier masterpiece, "The Screwtape Letters." In this sequel, Lewis revisits the demonic bureaucracy of Hell, presenting the senior demon Screwtape delivering a toast to a group of graduating demons. Through this imaginative and allegorical narrative, Lewis explores themes of human weakness, societal trends, and the subtle ways in which evil can infiltrate everyday life. Screwtape's toast becomes a darkly humorous commentary on the dangers of contemporary ideologies, societal norms, and the erosion of traditional values. This brief yet impactful work offers readers a satirical lens through which to examine the complexities of human behavior and the ever-present temptations that may lead individuals away from a virtuous path. "Screwtape Proposes a Toast" showcases Lewis's keen wit and insightful observations, inviting readers to reflect on the moral challenges of their own time and consider the timeless principles that shape human character.

Book Description
We inhabit a world of more than humans. For life to flourish, we must listen to the calls this world makes on us, and respond with care, sensitivity and judgement. That is what it means to correspond, to join our lives with those of the beings, matters and elements with whom, and with which, we dwell upon the earth. In this book, anthropologist Tim Ingold corresponds with landscapes and forests, oceans and skies, monuments and artworks. To each he brings the same spontaneity of thought and observation, the same intimacy and lightness of touch, but also the same affection, longing and care that, in the days when we used to write letters by hand, we would bring to our correspondences with one another. The result is a profound yet accessible inquiry into ways of attending to the world around us, into the relation between art and life, and into the craft of writing itself. At a time of environmental crisis, when words so often seem to fail us, Ingold points to how the practice of correspondence can help restore our kinship with a stricken earth.

Book Description
"Where God gives the gift, the 'foolishness of preaching' is still mighty. But best of all is a team of two: one to deliver the preliminary intellectual barrage, and the other to follow up with a direct attack on the heart." An inveterate scholar, throughout his lifetime C.S. Lewis wrote on any number of topics. While his most famous essays concern his thoughts on Christianity, he was also interested in literature, masculinity, domestic life, and war. In the nineteen essays collected inPresent Concerns, he touches on all of these and more. Though wide-ranging, these essays all share one thing: C.S. Lewis's characteristic pragmatism and persuasiveness. Many of the essays included were written between 1940 and 1945, and so pertinently reflect on the issues raised by World War II: democratic values, the need for a new chivalry, and the cynicism of the modern soldier, all of which remain relevant today. "Lewis gives us permission to admit our own doubts, our own angers and anguishes, and to know that they are part of the soul's growth."--Madeleine L'Engle
