Samuel Edward Weir (1898-1981), a lawyer from London, Ontario, was an enthusiastic collector of Canadian, American and European art. Over a period of sixty years he built a collection of paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, decorative arts, books and historical documents dating from the seventeenth century to the 1950's. In the early 1940's, Mr. Weir acquired a plot of land along the Niagara River in the village of Queenston. Throughout the 1960's, he supervised the building of Riverbrink, the gallery in which his collections are now exhibited and stored.
