The Role of the Social Partners in Youth and Adult Vocational Education and Training in Denmark
Author: John Houman Sørensen
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Adult education
Languages : en
Pages : 358
Book Description
This document about Denmark has the following four aims: (1) to provide an overview on the vocational education and training system; (2) to describe and evaluate the social partners' (employers, employers' organizations, and unions) role in implementation, management, and control in relation to the vocational training system; (3) to outline the main trends of development in relations between the labor market and the training system; and (4) to analyze the disparate effects of national features at the level of specific industries, including engineering and other metal-using industries, building and construction, and banking. The document contains seven main sections, a bibliography, and seven appendices. Following an introduction, the second section gives background information on the Danish training system. The third section describes the systems including: apprenticeship training courses; labor market training courses; the management system in youth vocational training and labor market training; and the relationship between "trade self-management" and the government. The fourth section describes the operation of the vocational training system at the trade and industry levels. The fifth section explains the social partners' opinions of the training system. The sixth section describes current trends. The seventh section summarizes opinions on the Danish youth and adult training system. The document contains 75 Danish-language references. Within the appendices are nine tables, nine illustrations, diagrams, an index to Danish-language rules governing vocational education, and an explanation of relevant abbreviations. (CML)

International Comparisons of Vocational Education and Training for Intermediate Skills
Author: Paul Ryan
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1000576817
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 312
Book Description
Paul Ryan has brought together the writings of the most prominent British research into vocational preparation in Britain in comparison to the other advanced economies, primarily within the EEC. The book, originally published in 1991, documents various aspects of inadequacy in British practice at the time, concentrating upon intermediate skills, which are of crucial importance for economic performance. The introduction outlines the strengths and weaknesses of comparative research. Part 1 discusses the use which has been made of it by policy makers in Britain and various aspects of comparative methods in practical comparisons, including an Anglo-Scottish one. Part 2 concerns vocational preparation in connection with productivity and produce markets, noting its importance for economic performance and its dependence upon companies’ product choices. Part 3 contains studies of the organization of skills and work and the finance of training within the EEC as a whole. Part 4 comprises studies of training in relation to labour market structures, each of which indicates similar alternatives for training policy in Britain – alternatives whose relevance and political prospects can only be enhanced by the demise of Thatcher government deregulatory policies.

Employee Relations in the Periphery of Europe
Author: E. O'Hagan
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 0230512399
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 282
Book Description
This book examines the manner in which the EU affects employee relations systems in economically peripheral European countries, specifically Ireland and Hungary. It asks whether the EU offers peripheral countries the opportunity to modernise their industrial relations. The EU dynamically promotes core-like employee practices, and national actors energetically attempt to implement the prescribed initiatives, yet little success has been achieved in modernising production techniques in peripheral economies. O'Hagan argues that the EU implements an unofficial development policy which it pressurises States to adopt. These initiatives amount to the frequently referred to European Social Model (ESM), which, she argues, can cause difficulty for policy makers because it is ill-defined, vague and contradictory.
